Jim: I have the exact model of razor. Could you tell me what the scales are made of? Not sure if it's horn or bone:signs002:

When I bought the razor, I was told the scales were made of Bakelite, but that can't be correct as Bakelite was first manufactured in 1917. I'm thinking that the scales on my Engstrom are original and my razor has celluloid scales.

I've seen most Engstrom razors with either bone or horn scales. So my razor is somewhat unusual.

Weird. Mine are definitely not synthetic. I've rubbed them with cloth till warm, and no odor whatsoever. Here's a close up . Any body else have an idea????
Took another strong sniff. It seems they're made of pipe tobacco:)

Maybe. It does have a metal (lead?). spacer. I just don't know what Engstrom used for scale material. I know some even had ivory.

Tonight's shave was hurried, and without time for proper beard prep. I had a rough 2 pass shave, that left me BBS. Zero issues. Next time I will take my time.

It does look like wood. When you tap on it, how does it sound? Or does it sound like something more solid?

    Proraso Pre Shave
    Palmolive Classic Shaving Cream
    B 400 by Tom
    Dubl Duck 5/8
    Schick G
    Personna Stainless
    CWR
    Thayer's Lemon WH
    Barbasol AS

I started off with Proraso Pre Shave. The Palmolive Classic Shaving Cream face-lathered well with the B 400 badger brush by Tom. I did the first pass with the Dubl Duck 5/8. Because it is SEptember, I did the second pass with the Schick G 66 with a Personna Stainless blade. I ended up with a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, I finished off with Thayer's Lemon WH and then Barbasol AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

Yasuki Steel Azuma Kamisori, Eufros soap, and a 28mm Ubersoft II synthetic brush. Fantastic shave today. No irritation, and only a few whiskers short of BBS.

    The Barber's Delight Straight Razor
    Frank Shaving Boar Brush
    WSP Fougere Noir Soap
    Dickinson's Witch Hazel
    Gillette After Shave Gel

Tried out The Barber's Delight that @TheFiveO honed for me, and boy did it make noise. I did two passes, WTG and a combo of WTG & XTG for the second pass. This thing is pretty sharp. Starting to get more comfortable with a straight as I went a little faster on this shave and no weepers again. Not a BBS shave but a decent DFS shave as I'm still not yet able to go ATG, yet. But at least I'm using my left hand more. One mishap though, my goatee got trimmed a little on one side, so I had to compensate on the other side.

Today's shave was with an old American Made razor. I had a smooth 2 pass shave, that left me with a DFS. Zero issues. I face lathered this cream, and it seemed to work better that using a mug.

Razor- Philadelphia Works, Celebrated American Razor. Near Wedge, Barbers Notch.
    Brush- Semogue 1800 Boar
    Cream- Habana. Heavy Tobacco scented.

Tonight's shave was with a Hamburg Ground Razor, "Bengall". I had a very smooth 2 pass shave, with near BBS results. One small nick on the earlobe, that couldn't be seen, but bled very little. I've never done that before.

    Razor- "Bengall". Hamburg Hollow Ground.
    Brush- Semogue 1800 Boar
    Soap- Stirling Glastonbury
    Aftershave- Osage Rub
