Thanks. Either Superspeed I own with a BiC Chrome Platinum blade is magic. The shave is the best comfort/closeness combo. It's as comfortable as it gets with no irritation and no discomfort during the shave while giving my a super-smooth post shave feel that rivals the Old-Type. So, basically, the Gillette Superspeeds I've found so far, are the pinnacle of shaving for me. A decent 2nd place is my Edwin Jagger "Kelvin" with a Feather blade, although BiC Chrome Platinum works just as good in the Edwin Jagger IMO. I'm still trying to master my technique with the Old-Type to avoid irritation because the Old-Type is so aggressive and shaves so close.

Thanks for going into such detail Tim. I've never tried Bic Chrome Platinum, but perhaps I should.

I like them in my milder razors. They're good and sharp.

    gorgo2 geezerhood

    •Wilkinson Bonded cartridge...
    • ...Testors glued onto a Dollar Tree disposable handle
    •mix of soaps (1st pass), Barbasol can o'foam (2nd)

And a perfectly BBS shave resulted. The Bonded was a fine, fine cart.

How would they compare to a Feather Professional?

Razor: Alumigoose w/ iKon Bamboo Handle
    Blade: KAI Captain Titan (3)
Brush: DFS LE Nathan Clark Envy White Handle Aluminum Color, Anodized Dark Bronze. #41/150
    Soap: Reef Point Soap Admiralty
    A/S: Lucky Tiger, Old Spice
Decanter: Old Spice Ship's Lantern 1981-1984 ID #3632
Bowl: Symmetrical Pottery Starry Night Dottie

Is it the brush, is it the soap, or is it the bowl? Hard to say, but all 3 work very well together to produce an excellent lather. Three passes with a minor touch up for a very near BBS.
The iKon handle is a great little handle.

    RAZOR: Parker SR1
BLADE: Shark blade - then Derby Professional
BRUSH: Burma Shave boar brush - from local drugstore
PRESHAVE: Hot water rinse, bloom water
SOAP: Hybrid (homemade) Col. Conk Bay Rum + VDH Luxury Shave Soap
    AFTER SHAVE: Masters Bay Rum
    Parker_SR1_Derby_BurmaShave.jpg
This shave was a challenge. Friday morning.
I don't always find the time to post my shaves, but I wanted to document this one for future reference.
Shave prep was good - no shower, so the optional face rinse with HOT water.
Pre-shave was typical bloom water application - no time for cold cream.
Lather was typically good. This Col. Conk/VDH hybrid has provided very good slickness/protection in the past.
The Parker SR1 is a familiar shave tool for me. The variable was the age of the Shark blade. I am not sure how many shaves, but not that old.
The blade was NOT cutting/removing hair. This was unexpected for the few times I had used this blade (my 1st extended use of the Shark blades).
I was in a hurry, so tried to force it - more pressure - and got 2 nicks. One under the nose, one on the right cheek (I'm left handed).
OK - this is not working so, time to change the blade. I need to leave the bathroom and find the new blades that I got a week ago.
So I put a new Derby Professional blade in and proceed. Now I am really behind, so again I am rushing this shave.
Not to mention, that I was already using too much pressure for a shavette. Got a weeper on my chin.
Out comes the styptic pencil to stop the bleeding.

I finally got a BBS shave, but too much drama and too many passes for the result.
Finished with Masters Bay Rum, which is a milder than my favorite VIBR. Face felt a little raw for the rest of the day.

    Lessons learned.
Shark Blades do not last very many shaves (for me).
Pre-shave cold cream can make a significant difference in protection.
Confidence in your shave skill is important. Know your products.
Be flexible when things are not working well.
If I get in a rush, best use a DE or other less demanding shave tool.
    YMMV

Now, go look at the brads/posts on the underplate of yours and make a comparison to my two.

Mine are not replates. I searched for a long time to find near perfect specimens. I passed on many primarily due to the loss of plating on those posts. Apparently the plating is very thin in that area, so it's the first place to show plate loss. The reason I point this out is that one could surmise mine are shorter (almost flush) due to having been worn down albeit in an unusual place. That can't be the case with mine because there would clearly be plate loss. Additionally, they're flattened and flared like brads.

My point being, I've never seen one with posts like that, so you may have a relatively rare variant. Only Streamline Cult members would truly care about it, but again, it's quite interesting to see. Thanks for sharing.
