Thank you. I can't wait to get home. I've been traveling a lot. I'll be home next week and then Florida for a week after that. I think I'll take several razors on that trip.

    Friday Shave

I prefer larger razors so I don't use this one often but it is easy to maintain and takes a great edge so I can't bring myself to part with it. Four passes and close to epic, if only the smooth face lasted longer.

September 14 - Medical Exception Shave

    Razor - Fatip Piccolo
    Blade - sharp-star.jpg (4)
    Soap - Soap Commander Courage
    Brush - WCS Synthetic
    ASOD - Aqua Velva Musk

Thanks to a temporary flare up of my pancreatic issues I decided to do an easy quick shave tonight. Pain levels are up, use of pain meds is up, not as sharp as I usually am (which, admittedly, isn't always that sharp anyway), so I grabbed the Fatip that is still loaded with a Sharp Star. Soap Commander and the West Coast Synthetic brush for a quick two pass without having to think.

I'm happy to say I got a good DFS. Not so happy to say I bled a little. Ok, so maybe using the Fatip when I'm not exactly 100% in control of my faculties due to pain/medication was either just bad thinking or hubris. Either way, I survived to shave another day. Hopefully my Friday starts out with a little less pain to enjoy the AV Musk! Have a good night!

This week's theme, with an @Ezra Cobb detour through truly heroic soap of Lilac:

    Tuesday-Wednesday

    IMG_1440.JPG

Veg soap. Yes! It's nuts! It's more Veg than the Veg. It you're not chosen...don't even. I love Lilac. I wear Veg as one of the Chosen. It's my most often use AS. Let's get real about this scent. This stuff would be straight up kryptonite to @swarden43 --Steve, I tried it so you don't have to! All that said, Catie's Bubbles is a nice soap base, almost a cream. Kinda thirsty, and left a nice skinfeel. Good performance with a shavette, would be ok with anything it seems. Had a couple of good days with the Derby, because Derby makes it double heroic on top of whatever outrageous level of heroism this setup would have been with merely a premium Cartel blade. Two DFS in a row. In case you wondered, it was a Veg finish. @NCoxSTL can you hear me? We're talking crushing Midwest sales totals like a Missouri Monster Truck Rally on July 4th. Getcha some.

@Primotenore - fun write up, huh?

Thursday was a smooth and easy drugstore shave....DFS style, FW finish.

Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado.

    Have a very nice Friday!

I took my inspiration from Chris @Bama Samurai though I doubt my soap smelled like Jamie @Ezra Cobb and the CB-LL. Digging through samples I found lavender/ oakmoss/ heliotrope on a label. From the tub all I whiffed was cinnamon. Expecting a croap I was surprised to find a hard product. Digging out a scoop it got mushed into the textured bowl and agitated with a slightly damp synth brush that our Jason @jtspartan crafted from a bit of cypress from my fathers orchard. Doesn't take much product to make a decent lather with the scent opening up to fill the room. I didn't check the blade in the injector that I received in a trade from John @John Ruschmeyer but it had plenty of service for this use. Three easy passes with only one nick on an unusual place for me - just left of my chin. Otherwise between the Latha and a familiarity using Schicks I'm most happy for the results. Skipped the alum because I got distracted trying to find an AS to compliment the soap. Barbasol dosed this juice with a good bit of menthol, and a second splash after the first application made me wonder why this stuff is so inexpensive.
    Good Shaves Y'all!

    Mystic Water Lilac

Decided to finish out the week with Mystic Water Lilac. Even though this is the original formula, I had no issues getting a rich slick lather. The scent of the tub is pure lilac that opens up during face lathering but fortunately dissipates quickly. Sticking with a three pass shave and skin stretching on my neck ended in a near perfect shave. The results on my lower right neck could have been a touch better. A splash of Fine Fresh Vetiver and I am ready for the day. I hope everyone has a great Friday.

Friday September 15 early morning - if at first you don’t succeed, repeat with the same setup

Supply Provision Single Edge injector on two-dot plate / Personna (9)
Semogue Owners Club cherry wood boar brush
    Supply Provision Juniper tallow soap
Alum and Supply Provision Juniper Postshave Balm

My last shave with this brush and soap was a lather fiasco, so I repeated tonight with the same gear. I followed one of the tips I was given and after soaking the brush, I not only shook it dry but then also squeezed the knot. The result was a surprising stream of water. I then loaded the dryer brush for twice as long as before and set to work bowl lathering.

The result was better tonight. The lather was not bad for the first pass and thin but barely adequate for the second. Definitely skimpier than I like though. Consistency was good however. I think with this brush I really need to double my load time on the puck again. On the other hand, squeezing the knot and getting rid of all that excess water definitely helped.

I think I will spend a week doing daily test lathers with this brush and letting the lather dry on it to help speed the break in process, then I will try using it again.

The actual shave was good. I hadn't shaved for a couple days so I had a heavy stubble. The SP mowed it down in two passes. The first pass left me looking socially cleanshaven and the second brought it to a near BBS. I had two light weeper patches on my goatee area after the first pass but the rinse between passes was enough to close them before I ever got to the alum rub. The alum was totally silent, even where the weepers had been, so I seem to be doing well now with the medium plate on this razor.

I lost one of my cats this week. Aurora was a Siamese I had had since she was a kitten. That was 16 1/2 years ago, which is old for a cat. She started going downhill this past month and basically died of old age Tuesday night. That's the problem with pets -- unless you go for parrots or turtles that both have lifespans of over a century, you are probably going to say a lot of goodbyes over the years...

Thanks. She was a good companion for a long time, in her own snarky Siamese fashion. What made it worse is that she is the second one of my cats to die on me recently and the first one was unexpected -- a fairly young cat that suddenly wasn't doing well and turned out to have widespread cancer. Two one-way trips to the vet in six weeks gets a bit much.
