SOTD SEptember 15, 2017 Fat Friday detour of A Stirling SEptember Blade: Schick Razor: Schick L1 injector Brush: Omega 10049 boar Lather: Mitchell's Wool Fat Post: Witch hazel, Fine American Blend aftershave WTG, touch-up Great shave with The Fat. Tremendous lather and a smooth ride with the L1 injector. Topped off with the finish from American Blend and I'm ready to go. Excellent way to start a Friday. Enjoy your day!
Beware, Paul! You start making comments about strops and the next thing you know you'll have a straight razor starter kit waiting on you. These guys love the dark side!
Nice setup, Keith. The blade and brush are real standouts! Hope you get to feeling better soon, Neal! The scent of lilac is one I just can't abide. More for you, Chris! Great photo, Rick! The venerable G1 never fails to perform! Absolutley stunning photo, Clint. I love the reflection! So sorry for your loss John, our pets are family members and losing them is just as difficult. Fabulous photo, Jim Your L1 is a looker Perry, and what a great shaver! My two best shaves so far this month have come from my L1 and my Pal Adjustable.
SEptember 15th Schick E3 w PAL TGN Finest Fan Stirling Gin and Tonic Thayers Aqua Velva Ice Sport The good shaves keep coming with the E3. Nice lather and 3 1/2 pleasant passes. The blade is feeling a little tuggy, but I'm not actually sure how many shaves are on it. At least the 5 this week, plus at least that many from using it before. Probably time for a change. Finished with the AV. Out of my 2 drug store purchases, I'd put this one ahead so far. I'll be gone for the weekend and then I'll swap out the E3 for my I1 for Monday's shave. Have a great day all!
That strop is Laitgo leather, which is a cow leather that has been vegetable tanned, then treated with oils and waxes to be a little water resistant. Latigo is used quite a bit in straps for saddles and outdoor gear. I do make horsehide strops, but I've never seen a saddle with horsehide. I imagine putting the tanned skin of a horse on another horse would be a little much. Say the word, Paul. I have a pair of starter razors and a loaner strop I can send your way on loan to see if you like straight razor shaving.

SOTN Stirling SEptember 14th Ever-Ready 1924 "Shovel Head" Gem Stainless (6) Simpsons CH2 Synthetic Faux Tortoiseshell "The Soap Destroyer" Stirling Baker Street AV Ice Sport For some reason the Shovel Head felt hyper aggressive last night. Maybe the blade was on its last legs, but I really had to focus on a light touch and staying on the cap. In the end I ended up with a DFS, no nicks or weepers with just a spot or two of irritation. Followed up with a splash of AV Ice Sport which had a little bite to it, then the menthol kicked in and all was good. Have a good weekend my friends and TGIF!
15 SEptember 2017 R E D Friday Blade Focus Shave If it's Friday that means two things. I'm wearing red and shaving with Route 66 "Rum Runner". Last shave of the week with the GEM Blue Star. It took all of my limited skills to coax a WWS out of this blade. Apparently six shaves is its limit. So off to the bin it went. Treet is on deck for Sunday. JJ#1 gets a well deserved rest and my Omega 6212 Silvertip will be going next week. Heard from my son this morning as he headed into Ft. Hood to check back in at Battalion. He'll be home the first week in October. Even though he's back, 1/5 CAV and 2nd ABCT is still deployed so I'll be wearing red until they're home. That is all.
Great photo Jason! Interesting observation, look at the size difference between the US and Canadian versions of the AV Ice Sport bottles.
