i don't see any thread where i ask the same questions August 29th, 2017 i am new at straight razor shaving and would answer like some of the questions answered above. i thought forums were to help people. well sir if you don't wont to help me don't respond to my post
SRD makes some fine strops. Red Latigo has a different feel than other leathers. This variable amount of draw is why strop makers offer a variety of leathers. All the choices of materials for the second component will work just fine. ALL will prime the edge prior to the use of the leather component. Some will be noisier than others (the Matched webbing —i.e. seatbelt material is the loudest.) Some swear by the hard wool felt; others prefer the premium fabric. I've used them all and actually prefer the feel of the SRD premium over the wool or webbing. Personal preference. WHICH material to select or which is BEST for either component is highly subjective.

I have the SRD with webbing. While webbing works I prefer linen but I haven't tried SRD's fabric or felt but I would go for the fabric or felt. My SRD is not latigo and the quality of the leather is very good. I have a latigo from Drygulch and it's one of my favorites and has a heavy draw.
I have quite a few choices for second component. To me it is all about the feel, because they all work effectively. Of the choices you have I would say my preferred feel would be premium fabric. I do like the felt too. I do not like stropping on surfaces that are zippy. It just makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.
