Friday Shave: A new citizen arrived in the den, a Riga Razor 7/8. This is a big heavy razor but is 1/2 or 3/4 hollow. Also new is The Vergulde Hand soap. The soap is a good perforrmer with a nice scent. I like there is a lot of room left in the container not just filled to the top, it will be perfect for travel. The is razor is very very sharp yet smooth. After the first pass I had a feeling this is going to be an epic shave. Four passes and a very smooth face, alum test.... Yes and epic shave. Irritation A+ Closeness A+ Smoothness A+ Sharpness A++ Razor: Riga Razor 7/8 Strop: Dry Gulch black latigo Brush: Simpson Tulip 2 Pre: Nivea Soap: The Vergulde Hand AS: Guerlain Derby, Speick ASB Scent: Dior Cuir Cannage
I'm going to give up on trying to catch up at this point. Hope everyone is well. It's been crazy busy on my end. Here are three of my last four shaves. The forth was in a hotel room in DC with a disposable.
I also picked up a new pen case for the razors that don't fit into my other one. I was loading a pocket knife into it when my 30DC LE Mayhem razor bit me. Small cut, but funny considering that it didn't hurt me while shaving.
You have a beautiful collection of straights, Adam. That's a nice way to store them. If you get a chance sometime, it would be great to see your whole collection in one photo. I hope your week is starting to calm down! Spend a few days in Washington, D.C. I can't imagine much work getting done there.
I’ve been crazy busy, but enjoying some shaves without thinking about or reviewing new soaps. Pulled out a Treet blade from a sampler pack and was surprised to find I like it a lot. Sharp and smooth with good results.
OCtober!!! October 12 Razor - Gem Micromatic Open Comb Blade - (3) Soap - Tabac Brush - 30 DC LE Post - Alum Final shave for the MMOC this round and it was a dandy. I can see how this shaver could become a daily shaver for some. It could for me if I didn't get bored so easily. That's probably something I should work on. Nah....over it already. Need new stimulation. The LE brush makes it easy to get a great lather with the Tabac as all the synthetics have done. I'd be interested to know how long a puck would last with the synthetics. May be an experiment I will have to try sometime. I do love Tabac so I could probably be happy with it through an entire puck. The finish tonight was definitely BBS. Very smooth yet audible shave and the alum was nice and quiet. No issues and I love that I found this razor. The plan for tomorrow is to move to the Fatip and give it three shaves like the other OC's. That will finish off all of my current stock of OC razors. I'll circle back through them as well as a few other fun things for the rest of the month as well as using some more soaps. Friday is nearly here! Hope your weekend will be a good one. SWMBO is leaving for the weekend tomorrow so I'll have the house to myself until Sunday night. Of course I work the whole weekend but I do see the opportunity for some "bad food" for a couple of nights. I'm in the mood for Imo's Pizza! Looking forward to it!
Rumors of my demise may, in fact, be premature... OCtober! Will stick with the Fatip. Time. To read.... Have a super weekend!

Barbasol Floating Head Feather (1) Semogue 2000 Stirling Gentleman Soap Commander Love ASB Wanted to give the oc a break today and received a fantastic shave the barbasol feather pairing.
Glad to see you are doing well. Great SOTD photos and a fantastic way to store your straights. The grain on the 30DC LE brush really pops in this photo. The 30 DC LE brush looks fantastic.
OCtober 13, 2017 Wolfman Ti OC (0.74 blade gap) Feather Rudy Vey Rover with TGN Finest Fine Platinum Shaving Soap and Aftershave Happy Friday Everyone. With any luck the last of the tax returns will be completed and filed by the end of the day. Despite our best efforts, we still have a few returns come in towards the end creating more drama than needed. While I have enjoyed both the Jeff's Soap and Reef Point Test Depth, I really feel the need to add some variety. For today, I decided to use my favorite Fine Platinum shaving soap and aftershave. Since the soap is shipped without a container I grated the soap and loaded it into a shave stick. Up for today is my Wolfman OC with the blade gap increased to 0.74mm. This Wolfman has a little less blade feel than the Timeless OC 0.95mm. The Wolfman has a narrower optimum angle than the Timeless but I find the efficiency about the same. Taking a cue from @PLAla I went with the "less is more" on the shave stick. The little Rover made short work of whipping up a nice slick lather. Platinum is my one of my favorite Fine scents and the soap delivers the scent throughout the shave. Three passes and minimal touch ups left me with a near perfect shave. Just missed the baby on my lower right neck. I hope everyone has a great Friday.
SOTD October 13, 2017 Prep: Stirling mentholated pre-shave soap Blade: GEM stainless Razor: GEM Featherweight Brush: Omega 10049 boar Lather: Mitchell's Wool Fat Post: Witch hazel, Fine American Blend aftershave WTG, touch up A top-notch shave for Fat Friday. This combination is a sure bet for me. The Featherweight was nimble and smooth and all came together quite well. Another shave stick shave will happen this weekend, most likely with Arko. But for now I am off to hopefully survive various Homecoming activities throughout the school day and into the game tonight. Busy time!!! Wednesday is the only day this week that I haven't worked less than 12-14 hours. And Wednesday was an 11 hour day! That's the life of a band director at this time of year. Have a great day!
At the Orthopedist this morning, seeing if I can get some relief from this arthritic hip short of replacement. I'm sure it will have to be replaced eventually, but things are stacked against it right now.
