A much better shave today than yesterday. I have 3+ Rise's left(that is, 3 plus the one I'm working with now). I want to try to stretch them out as long as I can. With my shave soaps, I should be able to do that. But of course I like the shave soaps, too .
I generally spend a lot of time making my lather that way, I’ve never timed it, but I would say three to five minutes (??) depending on the size of the brush. I’ll time it this morning and see. So when I do that, I’m not loading the brush per se, but building lather on the puck. It seems that the more time you spend, the more saturated the brush becomes (duh) with workable lather, and even tames difficult to splay brushes (Chubby Synth for example). I definitely use a softer approach on the puck than harder, and do think it makes a creamier lather. I started that because of being OCD about mashing brushes, but find a better end result. I dont think there is a lot of opportunity to incorporate air into it when you use that method. As I swirl on the puck, as soon as it looks pasty, I add water, maybe five repetitions or so, then the lather starts to build and work up into the brush. I keep adding dribbles until the brush is full. I don’t see that the brush makes much difference in the end result of the lather, just the amount of time you have to spend building it, and choosing brushes sized to the soap container of the day. I do it with all kinds of brushes and get the same result with the same soap. I think the soap pays more of a role. I do not think all soaps are equal when it comes to that method. Some just can’t tolerate the amount of water and break, or some simply create a volume of lather so quickly they almost aren’t conducive to it. Amici comes to mind as having both of those problems, but it has been a long time since I used it: Too much lather, too fast, that doesn’t like a lot of water. Route 66 is an example of a good soap that I haven’t been able to dial in using that method. I tend to get disappearing lather. That is a soap I reserve for old fashioned load the brush and face lather days. I definitely think the longer the amount of time spent, slowly working in water, makes for a slicker, shinier lather. I’m also not sure everyone would appreciate the end result, because I don’t go for much volume.
It is so nice getting back to the Dark Side. Part of the fun is the ritual of stropping the razor the night before. While this razor’s shave was comparable to the shaves I got with Eye-Gore the last five days, this one just felt right. I’m BBS and ready to take on the day. Cool photo, Brian. I have never seen any other Brut here in stores besides the original. Can you get that locally there?
I know you're happy to be back to the Dark Side. Very cool photo. Great photo. See you broke out the .74mm for a super close shave.
Thank you. It is a discontinued scent and not easy to find at this point. People that have it are trying to get big bucks for it.
Checked the alignment, John, and it is perfect. This one is on me. A healthy dose of carelessness with a little 'too confident in the routine' sprinkled on top.
Both Brut Attitude and Brut Dominant are discontinued. It’s too bad as I get compliments when using them.
Beautiful gear and photo, Clint. When will that plant drop its greenery? Leaves have pretty much all turned here now.
I'm sure they were great, but there must have been a lot of demand at Brut University to expand to additional scents. Was the original scent becoming unpopular?
