First class lineup. The brush just looks great. Great photo. The Tuxedo knot really looks nice in the brush. Great lineup Charlie. Hope you have a wonderful day. The Aristocrat is a real beauty Jim. I know you are happy to have snagged it.
Gillette Sheraton Feather (2) Semogue 2000 Stirling Gentleman Superior 70 Another nice comfortable shave.
OCtober 25, 2017 Wolfman OC Ti (0.74mm) Personna 74 (10) Simpson Chubby 2 Synthetic Reef Point Test Depth Folsom & Co Capri I had a rough night so I am moving a little slow this morning. At least I was able to get in a very nice shave. No drama or surprises, everything just worked great together. The "Soap Destroyer" did its job and reduced the Test Depth to a small sliver. I just mashed it on top of Jeff's Soap so it won't go to waste. A splash of Capri was a great end to a wonderful shave. I hope everyone has a great Wednesday.
Wednesday October 25 - supergooping the frankensoap Delta Echo Gillette Slim on 4 / Topaz Platinum ( 2 ) Semogue Owners Club cherrywood boar brush My Red Green Duct Tape Special frankensoap Alum and Thayers Witch Hazel Original Rose Petal I think the true benefit of trying the "super goop" method of lathering - at least for me - is that it has forced me to spend extra time loading the brush. I have come to realize that the single biggest weakness of my lathers has always been a tendency to thinness or skimpiness and that the cause has been miserly use of product. This weakness really became obvious when I started to use a new boar brush instead of my usual synthetic or dense badger. And I have been blaming the most recent thin lathers on the SOC boar brush "not being broken in yet", when the true issue all along has been "John doesn't load enough soap". Today I loaded enough soap. The boar brush looked like it had been soaked to the base of the knot in a can of white oil paint. In fact, because my big tub of soft Italian almond soap was filled almost to the brim with soap, there was thick creamy lather oozing everywhere. I finished my two pass shave and the brush was still full of lather. I had enough left over to shave a passing Sasquatch. I think it's fair to say my boar brush is broken in. Any future problems with it will have to be attributed to operator error.
I think you have hit on 1 of the 2 biggest issues with substandard lather. I have found it usually comes down to 1) not enough product or 2) not enough water added slowly. I load soaps like the owe me money and are 30 days past due. I don't time how long I load a brush or count swirls but I do watch the soap as it moves up into the brush. Overtime I have a mental picture of where the soap needs to be in each brush to have enough soap for a great lather. I am glad you got it all sorted out.
25 OCtober 2017 Wool Fat Wednesday Shave Pre: Hot water, soap from the container and a hot towel Razor: Gillette 1911 OLD Single Ring Blade: Shark Super Chrome Brush: JR#231 Synthetic Soap: Mitchell's Wool Fat Post: Hot/Cold water rinse, alum block, cold towelx2, Dominello Vitali Calming Post Shave Moisturizer After Shave: Herself's favorite, Aramis So for the last three days, I've been using my newest brush, JR#231. It's my first synthetic and I'm very impressed. You just let it sniff some water and it lathers like a beast! Broke out the OLD for this week. With a Shark Super Chrome locked and loaded I was BBS after 2.5 passes of shaving excellence. Finished off with some Aramis and Hump Day was off and running. Have a great day my fellow Denizens!
October 25, 2017 Razor: English Four-Piece Flat Bottom Tech Blade: GSB Brush: Razorock Plissoft 22 Cream: KMF fragrance-free Post: Alum, Listerine, WH Another crackin' good shave from this razor, BBS or close enough. If I were to have a complaint, it would be the two-piece handle. Mostly a nitpick, but when I go to loosen the top, I end up unscrewing the bottom instead. I think I may try it tomorrow with a more conventional Tech handle, just to see how it performs.
OCtober 25th Gillette NEW LC w Polsilver (4) TSE Beach Bum TGN Synthetic Chatillon Lux Gratiot League Sq AS 3rd use of the Beach bum in the past 10 days or so. I'm getting really nice lathers with this soap and a synthetic. It is easier with a synthetic in this small container. Needs a longer load- not sure if that is just because of the size of the container or that it is a little harder soap. I did my usual 3 passes, with only a minimal amount of jawline touch up and am totally smooth. I was bummed as I had planned on ordering some Floid and Myrsol AS s from Europe yesterday but can't due to their recently changed shipping of alcohol regs. I splashed on some Chatillon Lux and immediately thought 'who cares?'. Good stuff. Have a great day all!
I’m new enough to honing to still have it thrilling to get a BBS shave with a razor I honed myself. This was a very nice shave Craftsman Strop Ogallala Bay Rum Shave Stick Wolf Whiskers Brush Craftsman Razor Lucky Tiger Ogallala Bay Rum, Sage & Cedar After Shave Have fun!
Jason, Fendrihan carries both Floid and Myrsol. No idea how the prices compare to your original European source but at least you can get the stuff there if you really want it.
Every time I see a photo of that new barberpole razor of yours, I find myself drooling almost uncontrollably. And from what you have written the last few days, it shaves as beautifully as it looks...
Thanks, John. Yes Fendrihan and IB both have Floid and Myrsol in Canada. Floid is roughly $30 CDN here, and Myrsol is over $40. At Gifts and Care, had Myrsol in the cart for $12.80 USD each and Floid was $8 USD. Shipping was $16 USD. 4 AS for $59 USD (roughly 72 CDN) $18 each. Half Price. That's ok, I just see more Chatillon Lux or Barrister's reserve in my future.
