I have a Black Hawk but haven't tried a General, so I can't compare the two. The Black Hawk is a terrific razor for me. The handle is very light but you can remedy that with a different handle if you choose.
Hot Diggity Dogg! I am still "groggy" from my GENERAL shave last night with the Mystical Proline Blades - Is it the Razor or is it the blades~? these PRO LINE blades are literally blowing my mind - the remind me of a 1974 Schick Plus Platinum! EXTREMELY Sharp but smooth and somewhat forgiving, again this is my first SE that uses the Artist blades and the Proline is the 1st blade and only Artist blade I have ever used. Now I REALLY WANT the Proline B blades to try on my vast injector collection - but I CANNOT FIND THEM ANY WHERE - the rakutan or whatever its called wont ship those to USA - any body here want to sell me a magazine? haha last nights awesome shave - with this 40 dollar razor that is making me smile !!
The Blackhawk is a great razor although slightly more blade feel than the General. I tend to personally prefer the head geometry of the General. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
I’ve been alternating between the alu and SS Generals. I’m finding that the weight of the SS gives it a slight edge over the alu. Less passes and smother. I also tend to put more pressure on the alu to achieve the same results as I get using a light touch with the SS. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
24 OCtober Williams Wednesday Pre-Shave: Hot Shower Brush: 28mm Faux Finest Badger, Frank Shaving(FS) Soap: Williams Razor: Black Aluminium General, Colonial Razors Blade: Kai Pink, Kai Captain Titan Mild (3) Post-Shave: Cold Water rinse and Tai Winds After Shave, Avon The Big Whistle Decanter Photo: As today is Williams Wednesday I HAD to go with the Williams. I did two carefree passes with the razor this morning. Not quite BBS today but still DFS. Finished off the shave with some vintage Avon Tai Winds AS. I am in love with this razor. I also got the stainless steel handle when I purchased the razor. I will be switching out the handle next week to see how the added weight of the SS will change the performance of the razor.
I have found the entire character of the razors changes with the blade choice. You might consider ordering a Mongoose Sampler Pack from Tryablade. For smooth close and forgiving shaves with my Brass General I prefer the Feather Pro. For super close and less forgiving shaves I prefer the Feather Pro Super.
At this time I have the Kai Pinks then I have some Feather Pro Supers waiting on deck. I was thinking about picking up some of the Schick Proline next.
As was referenced by @clint64, Tryablade is your best bet on getting a sampling of blades that would interest you and experiment with without putting out the $$$ on full packs, ending up with a surplus load of blades that won't work for you. I've used them all and can get good shaves from all. But, I prefer the Feather Super & Pro in the Brass with the Schick Proline just a step behind.

1 November Williams Wednesday Pre-Shave: Hot Shower Brush: Omega 81064 Boar Brush Soap: Williams Razor: Black Aluminium General w/ Stainless Steel Handle, Colonial Razors Blade: Kai Pink, Kai Captain Titan Mild (6) Post-Shave: Cold Water rinse and Stetson After Shave Photo: A new month and a new razor, at least compared to the razors I have been using. I also decided to use the after shave that is only 20yrs old compared to the Avon that is 40yrs old. I added the SS handle to the razor this morning. It was heavier in my hand, the results did not differ from that of the razor w/ the alu handle. What I did notice this morning was that I was putting pressure behind the razor when I was shaving. Did 3 passes that left me BBS finished off with some Stetson AS and I'm now ready for the day.
