I used to follow this method, but in recent years have just started filling up the bowl from the start and just take it nice and slow. The choice of tobacco is in my opinion may be more important than how much tobacco is packed initially. A mild to moderate Virginia or Vaper, of the correct moisture level, i.e. not too wet, would be just the ticket. OGS is just about ideal right from the tin, and well rubbed.

Not being terribly impressed with Newminister Superior Navy Flake, I'm looking for ways to use it. Today trying half and half Newminister Superior NF with McClelland Dark Star, a Dark very mature and naturally sweet broken Flake, smoked in my Stefano. Not bad, next time maybe 2 to 1 Dark Star to NSNF. Accompanied by some Irish breakfast tea.
