I wish I were here to share lovely pictures of fantastic gear.

    Nope.

Shaves have gone well. I am four shaves into Vlasta's ananymous shave cream challenge, and that's been fun. Razors as I wish, focus on the 30DC brush going well. The problem here is deodorant. Yes, I said deodorant.

Technically, my problem wasn't my current deodorant so much as it was what was beside my deodorant on my shelf. Right where my nice, safe, natural roll on deodorant always sits in its nice little white roll on container.

A little back story is needed. Stop here if you wish. I understand. A few years ago I tore my rotator cuff in my right shoulder. After months of worsening pain, loss of motion, loss of strength, and increasing trouble with everyday tasks, I went under the knife. Six months of physical therapy followed. I never did get full strength back in the shoulder. The doc told me I may have trouble down the road again, and well - I am. The pain is back and has been slowly getting worse. Cool weather setting in has not helped. Even putting on deodorant is uncomfortable. But that's not the real problem today. The real problem is that I asked my wife a couple of nights ago to put some Bio Freeze on the offending shoulder to numb the pain. Bio Freeze, which come in a little, white roll on container. A little, white roll on container that is the exact same size as my natural deodorant container. Same size, same shape, same color. In fact, it appears to be the exact same bottle, with a similarly colored lable. And she placed that little bottle of Bio Freeze on my shelf when she finished with it. Right. Beside. My. Deodorant.

I don't dawdle when I put on deodorant. I shower, open it up, left arm, right arm, boom, done. About the time I started putting the cap back on, I got a whiff of something unsettling. Menthol. Which, by the way, is not an ingredient in my deodorant. I picked said bottle back up just as the deep, icy burning of Bio Freeze started settling into my armpits.

I immediately ran to the bathroom, wet a towel and vigorously scrubbed my pits. Too late.

Two hours later, the burning finally stopped. I am sporting bright red armpits. The bright side? My pits smelled nice and menthol-y all day.

    NOVember!!!

    November 8 - Qshave Focus
    Razor - Qshave Futur Clone
    Blade - [IMG] (3)
    Pre-Shave - Stirling Mentholated Pre-Shave Soap
    Soap - Truefitt & Hill 1805
    Brush - Jayaruh #46
    Post - Alum

After last night's wide open shave on the razor I backed it down to 4 tonight. My plan is to work it back up to 6 and see if there's a sweet spot somewhere under "setting me". Truefitt & Hill 1805 with the JR46 and I nailed the lather. Got the water right and had more than enough for the shave, for tomorrow's shave and for the rest of you as well.

The Wilkinson feels just like it did on its first shave. These blades really don't get enough love. Smooth and very effective, or as effective as the razor allowed. While the shave felt great and did end up being a very nice DFS it just took a lot of effort, or so it seemed. Somehow back at 4 I found the angle a bit restrictive. I did three passes to get DFS and it's close to the baby but not there. My thoughts on the razor at 4 after being all the way to 6? I'm not as impressed as I was the first time on this setting. I'll take it up a half notch tomorrow and see if I can tell a difference.

The final two items arrived this week for my original plan for the month. As I said, I'm sticking with the Qshave at this point. I'll put my original plan into play in a future month. I think you'll like it. It's so..............me. And I don't mean that in a narcissistic way. Some of you will know what I mean.

What was that pit called in Return of the Jedi? The one that Jabba the Hut tried to throw Luke and Han into to suffer a 1000 year death?

I laughed after it was over. My wife was horrified. She put the Bio Freeze at the other end of the house. I'm just glad it was not applied to lower extremeties.

    NOVember and I like it

    STrop Shoppe London Morning
    Omega #20248 boar brush
    Osaka Suribachi bowl, cool water
Ming Shi and Astra SP blade
    Alum, Proraso Blu Crema Liquida

    SOTD 11082017 ASP.gif
Three and done? I started with a Personna Lab Blue, then a Gillette Nacet. Fiddled with settings and settled at 4-1/2 for both comfort and effectiveness. So for my 7th use of the clone I shuffled through my blade stash. I don't recall stocking up on Astra Superior Platinums but there they were. Fortune & Chance and a couple of tucks convinced me I must have liked these else why would I have bought more? Taking my Inspired soap in hand I loaded the biggest and oldest brush in my den. Whipped up in the textured bowl; one mess of subtle scented lather. This stuff isn't just tallow, there's glycerin, Castor seed oil, Coconut oil, Cocoa seed butter, & Shea butter. Taking my 3+ passes, a little clean up, and a rinse left no errors. The alum was a little sparkly, but more important I felt no resistance from missed stubble. Rinsed the alum off as I cleaned up my gear and applied the balm and again felt no stubble. Somewhere between getting my technique, angle of attack and pressure, or the soap or the third type of blade - a BBS happened. I don't claim that often but this combo worked.
    Good Shaves Y'all!
