  1. Thanks Andrew. The Weber handle is my favorite. I like the weight and the knurling. It works well on my R41 head also.

Me too, Andrew. I also find myself having to relearn how to use a brush or a razor after having not used it for awhile.

  2. Thanks Perry. This is helpful. I will give it another try using the advice you've given me.

  3. Well, the fashion show they held was really outstanding. I guess the cartel uses prestigious events like this one as a cover. It certainly had me fooled. What a crafty bunch.

  4. Looks like Ivan’s sister has lost some weight. She may win the swimsuit competition this year!

  5. I rotate the Bio Freeze with another cream called Arnicare. The combo works pretty well for me.

  6. Thank you! I'll give it a shot.
  7. The "subtle error" that most commonly creeps into my shaves is that I get cocky and casual about them. And start "whipping them off". The next thing I know, I am missing patches of stubble, acquiring other patches of razorburn, and inflicting weepers on myself. Most recently, I put a triangular gouge in my upper lip that's still visible a month later.

The solution, as you suggest, is to slow down and pay closer attention to my technique again.
  8. NOVember!!!

    November 9 - Qshave Focus

    Razor - Qshave Futur Clone
    Blade - feather-yellow-box.jpg (1)
    Pre-Shave - Stirling Mentholated Pre-Shave Soap
    Soap - Stirling Barbershop
    Brush - Jayaruh #54
    Post - Alum

Well, here's the challenge. The Qshave on 4.5 to end with a BBS like @RyX did last night. Let's see if the clones can both match up for us. I went with a fresh Feather tonight to replace the three day old Wilkinson and went Stirling Barbershop the the JR54 to insure a slick and wonderful lather.

Last night when I backed off to 4 on the razor I felt like it wasn't nearly as intuitive as it had been on higher settings. The angle seemed a bit restrictive and my finish was a very nice DFS, but not a BBS. I haven't tried any of the 1/2 notches with the razor so adding that .5 to the angle didn't seem like it would be a huge difference. Surprisingly, the feel is much better. That extra 1/2 made it a much more pleasant and effective shave. Hard to believe but the feel was definitely better for me. And, after two passes and an extra pass on my neck, which we'll call two and a half passes, I was left with a very nice BBS and no blood and alum that was mostly quiet. Right under my chin on the goatee line was a bit of a stinger but that was it.

Clearly the 4.5 worked for Rick and I both and that makes the month even more fun. I'm going to go up to 5.5 tomorrow night, then back to the wide open 6 on Saturday to compare. This is an extremely aggressive razor with the size gaps it carries but it does seem to work better and even smoother as you open it up. That's a nice discovery to make!

  10. My vacation shaves:

No need for close shaves so instead of 4 passes I did 2 1/2 passes A+ for irritation and B or B+ for closeness.

Feather DX with Feather Pro blades, M&F brush, enhanced Alclado Glacial and L’Occitane cream

  11. Friday morning November 10 - Rule

    Rockwell 6s on plate #3 / Topaz Platinum ( 2 )
Semogue Owners Club cherrywood boar brush
    TOBS Rose Cream ( sample)
Alum and Thayers Witch Hazel Original Rose Petal

I have had a couple samples of other TOBS creams sitting around for awhile, so I decided to use them too. One is Rose and the other is Jermyn Street. Today the Rose was up to bat. It's quite a robust rose scent and I rather enjoyed it on this cold and snowy day. I don’t know that I would want an entire tub of it though. The scent of the Thayers Rose Petal WH is nowhere near as strong as the shaving cream's but did help extend the rose scent for a little longer.

I took it slow today and did a full three passes and some buffing on my jawline. The result is an almost dolphin smooth BBS. The alum gave me some slight warmth in a couple spots on my jaw but nothing major. Any hint of irritation vanished with the Thayers WH.

I have enough cream left in the little sample tub from Maggards for another couple shaves. I will finish it off and then move onto the Jermyn Street.

  13. I haven’t been posting much shave related info in this thread lately as I have been wrapped up in my soap review thread here. That experience continues to be interesting and full of new learning. Still following along here, though. Lurking and sniping off the occasional snarky comment, as is my calling. Happy Friday, gentlemen! - cue the cute baby pic!

    Colonial Razors General
    Feather Super Pro (10)
30 DC LE with Omega 20107 Boar Knot
    Nuàvia Blu

Another great shave this morning. The Nuàvia Blu scent is stronger than the Rossa to my nose and last longer into the day. The big 30 DC LE Boar made short work of loading and lathering the Blu. I I stuck with a traditional 3 pass shave this morning with touch ups along my jaw line and right neck just missing a BBS shave. Overall a great start to Friday morning. I hope everyone has a great Friday.

  16. Gem Bullet Tip
    Gem Stainless (1)
    Semogue BC Mistura
    Iced Mandarin Arko Stick
    Superior 70

Not sure what possessed me to use up my mentholated soap when the temps are hovering at freezing, but it performed very nicely this morning. Today was the first shave with the bullet tip. It is far more mild than either the clog pruf or open comb. It is pretty much what I expected. Like the Tech, it will take some time to get the most out of it. I still think the clog pruf is my favorite of the three. enjoy your day.

    November 10 SOTD:

    Stirling Synthetic Brush
    @Vlasta Sample C
    Parker Variant
    Stirling Unscented PSB
    Old Spice Classic AS

Two passes and I caught the baby this morning. I continuing on with blind shave cream challenge from @Vlasta, and this was the best one so far. Nice cushion, slick, and easy to lather. I also found the scent pleasant, at least once I lathered. It had a little disinfectant quality in the little container, but it was more floral to me once lathered. I will be interested to see what these creams are once done. I hope everyone has a great day!

  18. You guys are going to be amazed when the big reveal happens....
  19. SOTD November 10, 2017

    Prep: Stirling mentholated pre-shave soap
    Blade: GEM stainless
    Razor: GEM Featherweight
    Brush: Omega 10049 boar
    Lather: Mitchell's Wool Fat
Post: Witch hazel, Fine American Blend aftershave
    WTG, touch up

The usually enjoyable and relaxing Friday shave was had again this morning. Great results other than two small weepers. I really enjoy The Fat and look forward to this combination each week.

Schools are closed today in observance of Veterans Day. I am going with my wife this morning for an MRI of her right foot as the doctors continue to take a look at it. She's still banged up but is steadily improving. The wreck happened a week ago today. Still thankful for how it turned out because it could have been much worse.

I'm planning to use some products made by veterans for tomorrow's shave. I'm thankful for their service and for any of you who have served!

    Have a great day!
