The Variant is pretty nice. To me it isn't as noisy as most of the vintage razors I have, and it is definitely hefty. The blade gap is huge compared to a vintage, so I honestly leave it around 2. It have gone through the entire range, and I find 2-3 to be a pretty good setting. The head is a bit bulky, but it isn't too bad to negotiate around my face. I get good quality shaves from it every time.

All in all, my preference is for vintage razors, but that is more because I like the idea of using something my grandfather or even great grandfather would have used. This razor shaves every bit as well as any of my vintage razors, so my preference is more on the nostalgia than anything. I would certainly recommend this razor to anyone considering a modern adjustable, or just modern razor for that matter.

Anyway, it sounds like you rate a Seal of Approval yourself. I had an appropriate one once, long since lost in computer transfers, with the words "Corporate Seal" around the outer circle as is common on the seals of corporations, except this one had a picture in the middle of a seal balancing a briefcase on its nose...

 

Barbershop is one of my favourites as well, Neal. Good stuff.

I think that Arko could survive a nuclear winter...
