I picked up a black beauty a few months ago, and while being lost in the excitement I didn't give it a good once over. After getting home with the other razors I had bought as well and began the cleaning process, I found that it would not twist to open up. This thing is stuck good. I have tried a hot bath is dish soap, even soaking in scrubbing bubbles over night. Before I seen it off for a tune up I would like to know that it is worth it. As anyone else had a problem like this they were able to resolve?
I've only had one adjustable Gillette with a stuck adjuster. You might try hot water and blue Dawn dish liquid soaks alternating with drops of mineral oil from the top or bottom of the handle. I hear sonic cleaners get the nasty to break loose.
bring your water to a boil, add Palmolive or Dawn, a good amount, and soak until it cools. Heat liquid to boiling, I prefer microwaves. Repeat several times, working the mechanisms a little at a time, until it fully loosens up.
You can take the little cap off the bottom of the TTO knob to help the water get down in the handle easier too
Believe it or not, metal objects should not harm your microwave if placed into water or a water based solution. No sparks. No madness. Try it with a spoon next time you're making cocoa
I'll take your word for it, but I'll pass, thank you. I'm not one to tempt fate.* Just as easy to take the spoon out. *Then again, I do drive on New Jersey roadways.
Haha I absolutely agree. I was in amazement when someone showed me though. A friend with a degree in physics showed me. Unfortunately my understanding is nowhere near deep enough to explain it.
along with the hot water and soap add little bit of white vinegar, acid tends to break down soap residue
