Congrats, John! You will enjoy the BK12. It will be a much different brush than any of your others. The BK4 and BK8 are both fantastic brushes as well. Incidentally, the BK12 is 007's choice in Skyfall. Now all you need is the Aston Martin and the Omega watch to complete the look.

Quick, but good shave this morning. I thought it would be a slow day, but looks like I was wrong. I hope everyone has a great day!

Saturday morning November 25 - the Simpsons finale

Delta Echo Ink black Gillette Slim on 4 / Topaz Platinum ( 1 )
    Simpsons Chubby 2 Synthetic brush
    Simpsons Unscented cream
    Alum and M&L Florida Water

Used a bit more cream today. The cream is very soft so a light dip of the brushtip is all that is needed to pick it up. Most creams this soft come in squeeze tubes rather than tubs. It is softer than the tubs of TOBS, for example. A light brush swirl like I do with the TOBS would empty the Simpsons tin.

With a bit of water added to the bowl, the CH2 whipped up gobs of lather in my horn quaich. I then did three passes to an irritation-free DFS; I would have had to do some extra buffing in a couple spots under my jaw to have a complete BBS.

The Unscented cream truly was unscented - only a faint clean soap smell could be detected from it. The Florida Water topped it off with a long-lasting zesty citrus smell. It's the first time I've used Florida Water and I quite like the scent. Now I just have to see if using it reforms my spiritual life, cleanses all negative auras in my room, causes me to start lucid dreaming, cures headaches and does all the other things attributed to Florida Water over the years....

Happy Holidays to all and I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. We had a quiet family one which was just fine. I never got around to writing up Thursday's shave which was a pleasant one with the Schick G8, a Chick blade, and Der Vergulde Hand soap.

I've been mentioning off and I for the past few weeks that I had gone on a limb and ordered some NOS Rubie Super Stainless blades from the late '90s. After some postal follies, including no one being home to sign for them, I finally got them yesterday. Apparently, however, in my exuberance to try them, I really did not read the eBay listing close enough. As a result, instead of getting what seemed like a great price on a pack of 100, I actually paid Injector blade prices for a single tuck of 5. Completely my own fault, it does say that once you wrap your head around the strange wording of the listing. So, are they worth the most I've ever spent per blade for a DE blade?

First impression is that they are sharp and have a lot of blade feel like a modern Rubie Platinum Plus. I think the lack of Platinum makes them a little rougher for me. I was careful to use no pressure and ride the cap, so there were no issues, but the overall shave was more of a DFS. I'll probably try this blade in something more like a Tech to see if I can be more comfortable with it in a milder razor.

On a different note... I actually started this shave with the 30DC LE brush with the Virginia Sheng Pure Badger knot. As I started to face lather, however, the knot broke loose and popped out. I'm assuming that this was a fault on my part for either using the wrong adhesive or not enough of it. The good news is that both knot and handle came apart cleanly with no damage to either. As I see it, this gives me the opportunity to rethink some things like resetting the Purpose Badger with a higher loft or replacing it altogether with a synthetic. So many choices...

What did you set the knot with, John? I've had good success with 100% silicone, as have many others.
