I'm wondering when Steve @swarden43 will have a comment...
The to bloom or not to bloom question did get a little science from Ryan @PLANofMAN HERE. Otherwise prehydration of hard soaps devolved into a YMMV discussion.
The cited thread was almost two years ago. I note that I was face lathering then. Since procuring a suribachi my lathers are now 90%+ bowl. I do still moisten hard soaps for easier loading.

I was going to mention how good this months calendar picture looked.

I have no problem with that. However, my current ranking is MWF then everything else. We could definitely see what we can sort out.

I face lather and bloom all of my soaps. I load a moist brush on the puck then face lather using the bloom water to hydrate the soap.

I'm not about to add fuel to any potential fire other than to say that I do soak Mitchell's prior to loading. If I use it multiple days I find I don't have to soak it every day, just the first day, then just add a little water to the puck before loading. Now, how that affects any other soap I'm not getting into. Even the term "blooming" tends to rub me a bit the wrong way. So yeah, I'm not sure why I'm even posting this other than my brain told me to. Stupid brain. Kind of makes me a blooming idiot.

Other than increasing soap consumption rate, blooming offers me no practical advantages, especially when face lathering. I don't and won't recommend it to newbies. Lather is simply an ideal ratio of air/water/soap and is not affected by how long the water is in contact with the puck. There are a few ways to achieve that ratio, but blooming is an unnecessary step in reality.

Blooming wasn't a common practice until artisan soap makers suggested it....think about it.

Thank you Andrew. It has been very warm here lately. It is supposed to be in the 50 's here tomorrow and rain.

For me, it softens the soap and facilitates/expedites loading. The soapy water also helps in hydrating, at least in my mind. Both benefits may be unecessary and utterly useless, but it's the way I roll. I can certainly see how blooming uses more product but that is of no concern.

I don't bloom either. I have been bowl lathering lately. I just add water as needed. Works for me.

Once a year, I bloom my soap and let it go to seed, it's how I insure a steady supply for next year.
