Great photos and write up Dan. At least you still managed to grab a nice shave even though your lather wasn’t as good as you’d have liked.

One tip. If I have a negative reaction to a soap, I will leave the container open on the counter for several days. I guess this allows the essential or fragrance oils to dissipate reducing the reactions.

Another idea is to apply the lather to the inside of your forearm. This gives me a pretty solid idea when I am having a reaction to something in the soap.

    Decadent shave but no pic

Used the AoS tallow alone, usually, I use to make a super lather. Good thing I have a couple of pucks in reserve, it is legendary for a reason. An excellent shave just short of epic.

I succumbed to the immense peer pressure on this thread! ;)

Thanks, Bruce. I have to give the razor most of the credit for the “save.”

    Great info, men. Thanks.

I 'spose the forearm trick would work for AS testing as well.

Just beautiful, Doug. You really got the snow. We've had a few mm here in Kentucky so far, and I'm ready for summer!

Wednesday evening December 13 - back to straight DECadence

    IMG_00000067.jpg

    Rockwell 6s on plate #3 / Topaz Platinum ( 1 )
    Alluminati Envy White badger brush
Jeeves of Hudson Street Key Lime shave stick
Alum and Jeeves of Hudson Street Bay Rum splash

I was going to squish the sample of Jeeves of Hudson Street Key Lime into the bottom of a mug but found that Adam @Drygulch had sent me a generous enough sample to load a TSD Shop shavestick container completely. Therefore I made myself a shave stick out of it instead.

The scent of this one is penetrating, strong, long-lasting and pleasantly sweet and spicy. Not having an exact matching aftershave, I paired it with the Jeeves Bay Rum splash on the theory that the Bay Rum has orange and other stuff in it so is also quite sweet and citrusy. The pairing doesn't seem bad to me.

Using it as a shave stick, I rubbed the soap on my stubble and then face lathered it with my badger brush. After a bit of hesitation, it lathered up beautifully and filled the brush with enough for a full three passes, although the last pass worth was pretty thin. Still plenty of slickness though. As usual, the Envy White badger was a real pleasure to use - lots of backbone but still soft and pillowy.

I just enjoyed the scent, the lather and the entire shave ritual with no real expectations for any particular result. Checking my face half an hour later though, I see the baby crawled into the house.

An enjoyable shave and using the sample as a shave stick, it looks like I have lots more to come.

On the tail end of a 15 hour day. I did shave this morning before I went to work, and got a very nice shave off the first use of this set up. Razor is a fresh restore from Kevin of a Wade & Butcher For Barber’s use hollow ground, about 6/8 with a square tip and streaked horn scales. Soap was a recent gift, Oleo Soap works El Caballero. Scent is described as a mix of bay rum and a gentleman’s cologne. Good stuff, very slick. I’m going to put it in a larger container before I try it again, as I had a little trouble getting enough loaded. Very slick lather though. Used my new badger brush. For aftershave, I figured El Caballero would be riding through the desert, so broke out the PAA Creosote aftershave. If you lived in Arizona or New Mexico, you have smelled the scent of this bush after a rain. The aftershave is a close match to that, and makes me very homesick. Overall, a great DFS shave.

Some very unique software, Adam. The scent sounds like it relates to a time that was very important to you. Good stuff.
