1. Here's one that I did for my son some time ago, it's another Rubberset 49-5, but it's in a little better shape than the last one. I used a Maggard 26mm 2 band badger knot.

After being used for a few days,... my son has gone out of his way several times to tell me how much he loves this particular knot.

This knot had plenty of glue bump, had to open the top part of the ferrule to something over 29mm to accept the 26mm, should have used one of these in that last brush!

  2. That is gorgeous as well!

  8. This was my old man's brush that I did earlier this year. It sat around for years before I tried to do anything with it. I didn't take any before pix, but it can be seen in this box, it has splits on both sides.

I wrapped some rubber bands around it and soaked it in water for a couple of days so that it would soften, swell, and close up the cracks. Then I let it air dry for about three months before taking the rubber bands off.

Yes, it looks awful! But that's cool.

I soaked it in Teak oil overnight, and gave it several more coats over the next couple of weeks.

I took the knot out of a nicely broken in Omega boar brush by using a hole cutter with no pilot, saved the knot and the handle.

After using steel wool between coats, and leaving the dust in the cracks, I called it done and put the knot in it.

  9. BEAUTIFULLY done! And so much more meaningful being your dad's brush.

I've had great asthetic results with teak oil on older brushes, just as yours turned out. The durability of the finish isn't as long lasting as I'd hoped, though. Anyone else have this result or did I just get a bummer batch of teak oil?

All teak oil products are different, it can be anything from pure, raw oil, to nothing more than a wipe on varnish. I use Total Boat Teak Oil, which is meant for wood that lives outdoors 24/7 on assorted watercraft, and is even recommended for the ski deck on the back of a boat. It has held up quite well for me so far on shaving brushes. If it ever starts to look a little washed out, it's pretty easy to just wipe a little more on it.
  14. Thank you Andrew!
  15. Thank you fine sir!
  16. Thanks Steve!
  17. I couldn't say no, it needed me! :D

    Well used.
