Yeah, I may do that. I will be using my stiffest boar on the next round with this one.

You can’t say I didn’t warn you about the pace in this thread!! :D
Actually, the post volume has been higher this month than normal. It can be tough to keep afloat!

Another great post today Dan! Very nice photo and gear! That bowl is just wonderful! I know I’ve mentioned it before, but it bears mentioning again. Your wife has incredible talent!

Glad you could join the 30DC, Dan. You are now part of the camaraderie and mutual inspiration that makes the Crew such a great place to hang out.

Great photo today. Nice to see someone enjoying ordinary shaving products instead of the latest artisan fad all the time. And I have enjoyed following your test of the Ming Shi razor. Neal @NCoxSTL has tried one out of course, but I like getting a second opinion from someone who isn't a professional stunt shaver able to make blades on twigs look good. I have always thought the Futur looked too clunky for me, but now I am starting to think I should get one of these Ming Shi.

Oh yeah, and I enlarged today's photo so I could get a better look at that bowl. It's just magnificent! I think you have one of the neatest shave bowls on the thread. (I would say it's the neatest but truthfully Jason @jtspartan wood bowls with the inlaid shaving bumps are in close contention.) Nobody has anything remotely like that rosemaling though.

Thanks, Bruce. So many on this thread have such incredible shave products and set-ups, I'm just trying to pretty-up my shot with something lovely. :)

John, like you I wasn't too impressed with the look of the Futur... let alone the price. It appeared awkward and difficult to handle. I read some reviews on TSD from others about the Futur Clone by Ming Shi, and I saw that Andrew @Linuxguile had some for $10 so I ordered one. Granted, there aren't too many razors I don't like at the very least, and there are a few I like a lot. This one I like a lot. It's a little odd on the corners around my goatee because of the size of the head. The head is big so I have to be careful how close I get to the edges of the goatee because you can't see where the corner of the cutting edge is. Otherwise, this razor is user-friendly and smooth. I don't think you'd be disappointed if you decided to get one.

Thank you for the kind words about my wife's talent. She is an excellent rosemaler. I've noted that there are a lot of people with talent on this Forum. It's fun to see!

Looks like another decadent set up, Doug! How does the Milord stack up against other DEs in your rotation?

It's pretty good razor. Hard to beat some of the newer razors. It is a little light, but it's great to shave with a 1940 's razor.

Phew, I sort of caught up. I'm late to the party today, but what a great collection of set-ups and photos (and kids, and grandkids) today, Gentlemen. If I missed any photos, it was only because I couldn't keep track of the multi-quote. Great stuff!

Holy smoke! I checked the tread before bed last night, and catching up this evening took like an hour. You guys are ridiculous. The only way to respond is to channel my inner shave fu (he is slightly less arrogant than the original).
Jason- I joined only a few months after you and have been amazed how quickly my progression has been from:
    1. Who in the world would post something on a Shave forum? Seriously? Who!
    2. OK I’m about to slide a huge sharp object across my jugular vein area maybe I should ask these guys some questions first. They seem to know what they are doing.
    3. Wow, these guys are pretty knowledgeable and helpful. And some of them are smart asses just like me.
    4. It’s hard to admit this, but I’ve found my people.
    5. Hey, these guys are actually becoming really good friends impacting my life. How did this happen? How can I give more than I receive from these awesome guys?

    And on it goes...

Kinda made my point here. My goal in the new year is to be a big enough smartass to keep you on your toes @PickledNorthern!

OK - Serious shaving question - if the toggle were not rare, would you choose it over a Slim or Fatboy?

    Wow. Sweet shot. @Boojum1

OK - only 3 quotes in my mutiquote. I am clearly no shave-fu.

Final thought - when I started on this thread there was some theoretical discussion of a meet up involving beer, kilts, and some other nonsense. Lemme throw this out there - at some point the 30DC should pick an awesome location and have a meet- up. Kilts would be totally optional (maybe even discouraged). Beer, maybe not.

Friday evening December 15 - enjoying old reliables

    Rockwell 6s on plate #3 / Topaz Platinum ( 1 )
    Simpsons Chubby 2 Synthetic
My Red Green Duct Tape Special frankensoap
    Alum and Florida Water

    IMG_00000071.jpg

To go with my last Topaz Platinum blade in my trusty Rockwell 6s, I chose my favourite standby soap. My soft Italian almond frankensoap is a mixture of all the classic brands of traditional Italian almond soaps - Cella, Vitos Red label, Vitos Green label, Valobra and 3P. It always delivers a good lather whether I bowl or face lather and regardless of which brush I use. Tonight I went with the Soap Destroyer.

Three passes later the baby has slipped into the house without disturbing the alum at all.

My new Italian almond balm makes my face burn, probably a contact allergy to the fragrance oil used to scent it. So I paired the almond soap with Florida Water, which weems to have worked just as well.

Hope everyone is at the start of a great weekend!

Well said, my participation in this site evolved very similarly.
Kilts optional sounds like something you’d see in adult resort in Scotland.
