The most aggressive razor I've used is that iKon Tech, makes the Mighty R41 tame.

Neal, are you sure you're on the right Forum? I think this Forum is for all of us nerds who believe "so many razors, not enough facial hair growth..." :happy097:

Don't worry. It can't last forever. My curiosity will once again get the better of me I'm sure. Although I have to say that 16 days in a row of wonderfully decadent shaves can spoil even a top-end stunt shaver. Or should that be bottom of the barrel stunt shaver. Eh, whichever.

    Decadent December!!!

    December 16 - It's TOGGLE TIME!

    Razor - 1959 (E4) Gillette Fatboy (6)
    Blade - voskhod-teflon-coated.jpg (3)
    Soap - Stirling Barbershop
    Brush - 30 DC LE
    Post - Alum

So, I started to post this about an hour ago but decided to catch up first. Wow! This place is just like I like it. Busy! Ok, so here we go. Still "Toggle Time" here, but I'm changing it up to compare the Fatboy to the Toggle. My Fattie is a 1959 model while the Toggle is 1960. The Toggle was the first to be made in 1955 and given a number of trials. The Fatboy followed and ended up outselling the Toggle, thus condemning the Toggle to the dustbin - until we all found it. The purpose of the comparison is to see which I prefer and if I can determine a definite reason. They are extremely similar in head geometry, gap is identical, weight isn't that much different. The real difference is a toggle to open the razor versus a dial. So why did the Toggle fail? At least I'll have my opinion when I'm done. Not saying it will be the absolute truth, but at least a subjective look.

I'll be using both razors on 6 and with a Voskhod. Starting with the Fatboy tonight to make it a fresh feel after 9 days on the Toggle. Tomorrow I'll switch to the Toggle. Then back to the Fatboy, then back to Toggle then back.....you get the idea. Until I can make a decision.

As far as tonight's shave I went with the highly decadent Stirling Barbershop lather and scent, brought to life with the LE brush. Unbelievably decadent. I did three full passes, not because I needed that third pass, but because I was just enjoying it way too much. The baby is in the house with quiet alum and no issues. Mmmmmmmmm good.

Nice presentation, Neal. I look forward to your comparison between the toggle and the Fatboy. FYI... I have the E(4) Fatboy which I picked up a couple of months ago but I haven't shaved with yet. I'm going to either use that or a "64 Slim on the next shave.

The Gillette Adjustables are all fine razors. Well above average at least. I have used both my Fatboy and my Slim in blade trials as the gaps match. Head geometry on those two is a bit different but but deliver up great shaves.

It's cold outside. Winter is coming. @jtspartan just needs to be the proud Bryan Adams fanatic and Belieber that he is deep down inside. He's a cool guy, Canadian pop tastes notwithstanding. Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado.

    Have a wonderful Sunday!

Thank you Charlie & Dan! I'm glad to be included in such fine company.

Thank you Jason & Jared! I enjoy using the vintage gear. Didn't specifically try for a retro or vintage look. I have found playing with focus accentuates certain points of interest in the photos. I'll keep em coming :happy088:

Glad to have you drop in! This is an Un-Hijackable Thread. Your input is always welcome.

I've tried half a dozen or more Fat Boys of different year/quarters. The E4 has been my favorite. I think Neal likes his, too. We can make Fat Boy Friday a Thing?

There is a significant difference in mass between the Slim and the FB. The FB is both more aggressive and heavier. Fwiw, the FB is the only vintage Gillette I've chosen to retain in inventory. The correct setting is Nine, ride the cap, do full skin stretches and let it glide. ;) Both are very well done razor heads.

The Belieber! I think he lives down there now, you have to claim him.

If you want some Canadian pop, at least play some good Canadian pop:
