Hey all, I really love my fatty. I gave up on my straight razor. I sent it out to be replated. I can’t wait to get it back! I opted for the original plating Here are a few pics of the before. It really wasn’t in bad shape at all. I figured if it’s going to be my daily I will treat myself. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Great choice! By reputation he's about the best there is for replating razors, especially Gillette adjustables. I expect you will be delighted with the results.
I did a bit of research and he came up over and over as being the go to guy. Thanks for the reassurance! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Im not too sure I forgot to take a pic of it before This is what I have for a pic Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
My guess would be an F(1960), or G(1961). Reason on being is the "Collet", under the adjustment dial. I have examples of each, with unusual exceptions to the rule. Rule being: D an E razors have an exposed(longer) nickel portion of the Collet, under the adjustment dial, along with the usual back painted Brass band. BTW, this black band is not just a painted stripe, but a separate band pressed onto the collet. Now, the example presented by @James_P , has no exposed nickel plated collet, and dictates it is an F, or G razor, along with it probably having the pressed on End Cap. There are very rare exceptions to the Collet rule, and I have only seen a couple.
D3 is the 1st date code for the 1.95 FatBoy. Chris at RazorPlate did my D3 FatBoy in Rhodium. He also did another piece in nickel for me. You made a great decision.

Four or more years ago OCRazorman rhodium-plated a D4 handle and base but the top bar and butterfly doors are still in their original nickel (sort of an homage to the Gillette President). I took it with me to Baltimore for a week last month. It is the first razor I ever wanted (my parents laughed at me)! Tom
Should have added some pics (sorry about the focus): Partially replated Fatboy - Pic below shows the Rhodium handled D4 under the shave cream and the D3 in its brassed nickel resting on and above the tube: Tom
