Thank you, gentlemen! The boy is doing better overall. He's not 100% yet but seems to be on the mend. And now I'm getting a sore throat.....can't catch a break! Hopefully a good night's sleep will take care of most of it.

 

Hope all of that gets better fast. I just drove home from Jackson MS. Wet and nasty out there.

 

Had a first go with the Wholly Kaw Merchant Of Tobacco today. I used my Edwin Jagger Chatsworth with an Astra SP.

Performance-wise, the Wholly Kaw lived up to the hype. Coupled with the Chatsworth and Astra, it was a pretty flawless shave. Scent wise, it was on the "meh" side. I expected a lot from a title called Merchant Of Tobacco. Namely tobacco. What I got from it could best described as cocoa powder mix.

I spent a lot of time with the Toggle and Fatboy, so decided my Slim needed some loving. I think he felt left out and he is, after all, a Gillette Adjustable. With only six shaves left in 2017 (wow!) I want to go out in absolute decadence, so I grabbed the Mitchell's Wool Fat, the Wolf, and a Gillette Silver Blue, the premier blade from St. Petersburg. I also added in the pre-shave soap from Stirling just to add the whiff of menthol and that extra slick feeling.

Two passes was all it took to make me happy. If it wasn't the baby it was close enough. I did a bit of touch up just to play with the lather a bit more. Couldn't have been a finer lather. No issues, nothing but a great, smooth, luxurious and totally decadent shave. I think I'll repeat this one tomorrow.

Speaking of tomorrow it's back to the grind. I'll be working straight through New Year's Day but this is usually one of our busiest weeks. Let's hope so. I've got my eye on some new gear! Hope you had a great Boxing Day!!

I went back to my sample box today. My pick was B+M Latha Limon, which is supposed to be a mix of lemon, orange and rose. I just got lemon from it. About a fifth of the sample flattened out in the bottom of my lathering bowl gave me ample soap. I really like the little sampling spatula that the TSD Shop includes with their sample tubs. It's a thoughtful extra that works well. (You can see it in the sample tub in the photo. These B+M samples actually came from Maggards .)

The 24mm Maggards plissoft knot I installed in my Chinese hardwood handle quickly whipped up ample lather from the sample. So far, the Latha seems to be decent soap, though I don’t care for the Limon scent enough to buy a tub.

Two passes gave me a solid DFS. The vintage Gillette blade was still sharp and smooth on its fifth outing. Nothing much from the alum -- a couple minor hot spots under my chin. The Florida Water was a refreshing finish.

So, you used a Wolf brush and sheep soap. There's a joke in there somewhere; it's just too early for me to find it yet.

Another excellent shave this morning. The little BSB-2 brush is the perfect match for Jeff's Soap. The soap loaded and lathered easily. I have settled on a XTG, XTG and ATG 3 pass pattern with the OneBlade. This results in a better shave along my jawline and lower right neck. I didn't catch the baby but came really close. A splash of Floid Blue and I am off for a rainy morning commute. I hope everyone has a great Wednesday.
