Yesterday My Burma Shave brush gave its life to the cause of wet shaving (knot came out of the base):sick002
I picked up a new VDH. This "Thing"used three times as much Proraso to make about half as much lather.:signs002
Is this normal with this brush or will things get better as it brakes in?
I hope there is a C&E BBB under the tree but still need to shave pls help.

    You can re-attach the knot.

Don't know about the VDH. Perhaps it holds more water than the Burma Shave brush?

I have no idea about those brushes, but if you want an economical replacement, try an omega from Gio at Razor and Brush. They're cheap and very high quality.

I haven't used that brand of boar brush, but in my experience brushes don't break-in much. It might be like the Queen suggested- a water retension issue- or it might be that the VDH brush just doesn't lather well. I'd suggest you save up and get a C&E badger brush. If you're partial to scratchy brushes, try the pure badger range. I love my C&E. Best $35 I've spent in a long time.

What Jim said. I have one and while it's not quite up to par with my badger, it's pretty darn good and the price can not be beat.

I use a VDH brush regularly (like 5 out of 7 days). It took a little while to break in but now it's soft and makes lather like crazy. After break-in it doesn't use anymore cream/soap than a badger brush for me anyway. Give it awhile and you'll be surprised.

Or you could just glue the knot back in as mentioned.

I have a VDH also. After I bought my C&E best, it became a travel brush. It did break in and works well with soaps, but doesn't lather creams very well. The C&E brush makes great lather from everything. I'm think I'll eventually try a better boar brush like those sold at Razor and Brush, as they have a good reputation.

I'm using the VDH 'Natural' (green base) brush right now and liking it with the VDH Pink Deluxe puck soap. I have not used it with creams so I can't help there but it lathers like crazy with the solid puck soap.

The Burma Shave and VDH Boar brushes are lousy.

If you want Boar, get Omega. 1 second after uses and you will say "what was I thinking with the Wall-Mart Brush".

When I bought the Wal-Mart brush, I was thinking:
"All the canned goo irritates my face so bad that I'm shaving with nothing but a Mach 3 and water. I'll try a cheap brush and soap to see if this whole wet shaving thing has a shot of actually working". Now I primarily use my C&E best, but I'm considering an Omega or Boreal boar brush in the future. I'm in no hurry as I'm getting great shaves now.

Yes, I occasionally use another brush to remind me of how much I love my C&E BBB.

The bananas come preloaded with their own fruity fresh cream! Sort of reminds me of banana cream pie!

I picked up a Wal Mart VDH Boar brush tonight. Anyway to break it in quickly? Soak it in hair conditioner or something?
Any prep I need to do before using it?
    Thanks for the help.

Never tried one, although I was looking at them last week. Maybe a couple shampoo treatments? I don't know if they smell funky like some badger brushes......
