I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year, too. For the first week of 2018 I am using my Gillette New Improved.

I started off with Proraso Pre Shave. The Fine Snake Bite Shaving Soap face-lathered well with the Jayaruh #144 Badger brush. I did two passes with the Gillette New Improved and an Astra SP blade and ended up with a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, I finished off with Thayer's Lemon WH and then Barbasol AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

Nothin fancy for me as 2018 begins:

This is my very first shave with a GEM Micromatic Bullet Tip SE.... All I can say is WOW!! very very smooth shave far better than the Colonial Razors the General, I should've got the GEM Micromatic Bullet Tip years ago. Getting tricky shaving WTG above my lip under the nose so I have to go XTG on the first pass, because the head is very tricky around the nose area.

Question to all GEM lovers.. Do you flip the blade over after each shave or do you just leave the blade in the GEM, how many per shaves can the GEM blade reach to the maximum before it's start tugging I just need a rough idea of a total number.

NEW YEAR'S DAY SHAVE​

Razor - Vintage Gillette Superspeed circa 1947-1952 (re-plated in nickel by Razor Emporium)
Blade - BiC Chrome-Platinum *2nd shave
Bath and Shave Soap - Vintage Early American Old Spice
Bubble bath - Vintage Early American Old Spice
Deodorant - Vintage Early American Old Spice Body Talc
Fragrance - Vintage Early American Old Spice Toilet Water

This will be a special one. I'm going old-school to start the year. Really old school.

The bubble bath, talc and toilet water smell like they were made yesterday. The soap....lost some scent quality, but still wasn't bad. I really like the smell of this. I think the Early American Old Spice that I have here smells much more like the modern P&G Old Spice, but more natural. The P&G Old Spice florals smell harsh and chemical. This vintage Early American Old Spice smells natural and very refined. Like expensive niche fragrances smell today that cost hundreds. I really got a treat today with this stuff. The vintage smells much more smooth with absolutely no cloying or harshness. There is more of a powderyness to it and it's not the talc, it's the scent. Very nice. I highly recommend this stuff. It's better smelling than all my other Old Spice cologne hands down. I will try to eventually find another bottle in this condition.

To answer your questions: 1) I do not intentionally flip the blade over; but, 2) I always remove the blade and set it aside for drying. Typically, I can get 3 or 4 decent shaves with no tugging. The most I’ve pushed a blade is either 7 or 8. I only have experience with the Gem SS and CS blades since I can but them locally. I have better luck with the SS blades.

Got a terrific lather from Fern Concerto. The scent is familiar but I can't put my finger on where I have encountered this scent before, anyways it is a fresh clean scent. Did end up with some irritation on neckline but did get a BBS shave. Finished off with Italian Stallion milk with a little menthol added, very moisturizing.



NEW YEARS EVE SHAVE

Decided to go with Night Music tonite, very unique scent that I honestly didn't care for at first but has grown on me. The lather has a brown tint to it which reminds me a bit of Ballenclaugh Vanderpool since they both have that yellow brown lather. B&M is one soap that seems to be hit or miss for me, sometimes the lather is perfect, other times it seems lacking in cushion. This shave turned out allright but did seem to be lacking a bit, this is a older formula which may play a roll. Finished off with Fougere Gothique which reminds me a bit of Petrichor but deeper and more complex, beautiful earthy scent. Hope everyone had a safe new years eve!

Hi all, it's been awhile since I posted here, so I want to start the new year off with an SOTD post. Here's today's shave with my 1914 Ever Ready little lather catcher -

I looked at the outside temperature before and it's -26C. That's how cold this shave felt after using the Glacial Wintergreen trio. Guys, I'm very seriously talking - for those of you have never tried a Glacial soap, unless you can tolerate extreme menthol DO NOT touch them because you'll find it lethally-cold. The Arctique aftershave cannot be splashed on liberally - just a couple of dabs are enough. Any more than that and you'll suffer, and I mean suffer. This first shave of 2018 was a pleasure and absolutely BBS!
