:)...well, I'd go with knuckles over the Canseco-McGwire "double elbow hit".

First off, I hope everyone had Happy New Year! I got myself a few new soaps for Christmas and they came in last week. This was my first go with a B&M soap and I am totally blown away. The scent is nothing like I imagined, its even better! On first sniff the oud and rose are very predominant, but then the tangyness of the lime and sweetness of the raspberry start to come through and they all meld together in a scent that captures the feel of the holidays perfectly. Scent strength was amazing, this is easily the strongest scented soap that I own. The performance also left nothing to be desired, it had no problem turning into a creamy super goop in a hot scuttle and was super slick with excellent residual slickness. Post shave feel was excellent as well, this is really a top notch soap! I really don't have an AS that is anything like Eventide, so I went with Mountain Man just because. A fabulous start to the new year!

Also I decided that my Injectors and SE's were getting enough love, so from here on out every month I will shave with a Modern DE, a Vintage DE, an Injector, and an SE.

Thank you for the advice, gentlemen. More on my shave soon when I post it, but I did follow your advice today on lathering just part of my face, shaving it, then lathering another part of my face and so on. Worked extremely well.

This morning’s shave was the first of my focus. Two passes for DFS+. Realizing there are some subtle differences between my right and left sides. Not sure how close I want to follow complicated grain patterns, but that’s what this month is meant to decide.

Anybody know any foolproof beard mapping techniques? I’m realizing although I knew my general pattern, there are some subtle nuances that are tough to nail down.

Congrats on a nice shave, Rick!

Seems like the perfect razor for shenanigans. I'm still trying to wrap my head around half blade / full blade thing. Interesting... have a great week, Neal!

Too bad about the blood loss, Jim... but tell your son Happy Birthday!

    Nice photo, Clint!

Nice photo of some nice gear!

Good stuff, Perry. Hope you're feeling better.

    Great photo, Mark!

Congrats on a successful first shave with the new razor!

Terrific picture under snowy conditions. Like everyone else I like that brush handle!

Happy New Year, Andrew! Nice photo and good shave.

Good luck on your focus this month! I'm still trying to figure out the patterns on my face too.

    Pre-shave: hot shower
    Brush: Cremo by Vie-Long Horsehair
    Soap: Stirling Autumn Glory
Razor: Magic by Master Barber shavette
    Blade: Derby (2)
Post-shave (not pictured): Thayer's Lavender WH, Nivea Sensitive PS Balm, C.O. Bigelow 1580 Cologne (Elixir Blue)

Today was the 2nd day to shave with this shavette. It continues, of course, to be very awkward to hold, figure out the angle and carefully move it across the skin. However, I will say I had more fun using it today than yesterday. It occurred to me that I'm taking so much time to shave it's extending the enjoyment of the task.

I continued to use only my dominant (right) hand for this shave. I'm not ready to risk using the other hand... yet.

I took the advice of others and partitioned my face, i.e. I lathered up one cheek, shaved it (slowly), and when that was done I lathered the other cheek, shaved it (slowly) and moved on. This technique worked well since I was able to concentrate on a small section to shave and not worry about the lather on the other side drying out as it did yesterday.

As a side note, I got some great lather from the Stirling Autumn Glory. Felt wonderful.

    Have a terrific week everyone!
