Not going to argue, Neal. Your term so your definition. Thicker AC (Feather Artist Club) blades define a Pain Stick, and differentiate it from a half DE blade shavette.
Where do you fall on a Weck Sextoblade Hair Shaper? They use a longer thicker blade with the folded spine like a SE blade.

I think I'd say pain stick. Longer, thicker, and less flexible than a standard DE or SE blade. That's what I think of for "pain stick". I appreciate your allowing me to define the terms here but I'm willing to negotiate the definition. Maybe we should add "easier to suffer serious cuts with if technique fails". I know I've cut myself with the Magic Shavette as well as the Feather SS and Kai Captain. I also know the cuts from the two AC razors have been bigger cuts. One was more of a filet move as the tip got just under the skin as I rotated the razor for some stupid reason. Nothing like feeling that steel run just under the skin and see the flap it can make.

Been there, kinda done that. Using a Weck and had a bad set down. Stuck myself with the toe of the blade. Styptic sealed it up after a few minutes. Got back on the horse that threw me and darned if I didn't stick the blade right in the divot I'd just got to stop bleeding. It was a place on my chin that is still easy to catch with any razor since.
I do prefer the half DE shavette I'm using now for it's 8/8 sized width. The Weck is closer to 4/8 and harder to maintain angle of attack.

Gulf Coast weather is about the same as Denver's this week. I understand and would have started a beard back in November if I was your neighbor.

Cool focus, Keith. Will you end up choosing between stones at the end?

Well, I'm a lot more comfortable with that definition. I'm still working on straight techniques, and I don't think I'd find a shavette overly intimidating, but the CJB pain stick that @Keithmax sent me is still my ultimate goal. I feel like I've gotta work up to that thing, though.

Neither one is necessarily the best decision, but hey "It's your shave. Enjoy it your way".:)

I'm trying to figure out an occasion that'd be OK to wear that, because a mischievous part of me wants to. Just not sure I could pull off the badass viking by grandma look.

All it took was some good advice by @Bama Samurai, and I was able to get a blood free shave. "Don't cut yourself." Listen to it, it works. Two passes, just shy of BBS. I was at the gym again, and running late last night, so the set up was the same as yesterday, as is the pic (just a different set of filters :)). A good start to my day. I hope everyone has a great day!

@NCoxSTL coined the term, so I will certainly Stick with his definition. But, I will offer that in my limited experience with a half blade shavette and quite of bit of experience with a Feather Artist style, the shave is more challenging with the half blade shavette. The length of the blade, IMO, is of added benefit when using a Feather style as it more closely mimics a straight razor. For whatever reason, and it may be purely lack of practice, I find it more difficult to control the sharp corners of the half blade shavettes due to their short lengths. When I use a straight, I have gotten fairly decent at using various parts of the blade for different parts of my face and neck, and I can do this very well with my CJB. I have a bit more trouble with the short blades of this Classic Samurai, although today went pretty well.

    Prep: Stirling mentholated pre-shave soap
    Blade: Schick Proline
    Razor: Schick G4 '66' injector
    Brush: Surrey badger
Soap: Jeeves of Hudson Street Turkish Bath
Post: Witch hazel, TSD Iced Barber Shoppe aftershave
    WTG, touch up

This was a superb shave. The Proline blade has been great after two shaves. Sharp, noisy, and effective. Can't ask for much more than that. This is some Turkish Bath soap from Jeeves that I had leftover from the soap pass-around I did last year. There was a little chunk left in there and I pressed it down into the container. Wow - great stuff! Everything you want in a great soap is in Jeeves.

No complaints here. Hope everyone has a great day!
