Another member of the club. Welcome in from the cold! Williams is great for straight shaves too. You will get it sorted out I am sure.

    Thanks for the heads up!!!

So no way for me to catch up. If there is anything else important I missed please have the current thread Secretary shoot me a memo from the cannon.

On a hi note..... I now have a pre 1900 Kampfe that is mounted on a Jayaruh handle. I have made my peace with using these handles on razors that would have had wood handles.

I also picked up a GEM G3 set with the bakelite handle. My favorite 1912.

Yes one cent...the shipping is 10ish but still no one bid..... I was amazed.

    Prep: Stirling mentholated pre-shave soap
    Blade: GEM stainless
    Razor: GEM G-Bar
    Brush: JR #60 synthetic
Soap: Jeeves of Hudson Street Bay Rum
Post: Witch hazel, Jeeves of Hudson Street Black Tea aftershave
    WTG, touch up

I'll copy my report from the injector thread:
Strange occurrence this morning. I used a new blade (seen in the photo) from tryablade. I've used stainless blades for a long time with no problems. Lather up, pop the blade in and start shaving. Ouch. Ouch more. Tuggy and rough. Really uncomfortable. So I get out a second blade from the tryablade package. Same problem. Tuggy and rough. So I chuck it for a THIRD blade but I got this one from the black GEM magazine. Ahhhhh.....smooth and buttery as it should be. So odd to have two blades in a row that were duds. Nice shave in the end but it sure started on a poor path.

One little weeper on my chin that was quite annoying. Tomorrow's shave is the with G-Bar as well but it will be better as I've got a good blade in there now. Can't wait to try some PTFE and carbon blades this month as well.

By the way, the Jeeves soap is terrific stuff. Thanks again @Drygulch!

    Have a great day!

    Gem Damaskeene / Gem PTFE ( 3?)
    Simpsons CH2 Synthetic brush
    Jeeves Private Study soap
Alum and Jeeves Bay Rum splash

Like @wchnu, I recently acquired a wooden handle for Gem-style razors made by @Jayaruh.
Nice looking Kampf by the way, @wchnu, and good score on the Gem G3. :happy096:

My own @Jayaruh handle arrived in the mail yesterday, so I dumped my planned razor rotation in favour of taking the new handle out for a spin on my Gem Damaskeene. The handle is lighter than the original metal one (shown in the razor box in the photo) but is bigger, better shaped, and easier to manipulate. It made for a great shave. Two passes to a DFS without any irritation or blood, unlike the last time I used this razor. I will use this razor for the rest of the week, I think.

In keeping with the new plan to finish off soap tubs, I brought out the Soap Destroyer today. I expect both it and the Soap Aircraft Carrier aka Kent BK12 will be seeing heavy use this year...

I have a 1918 also. I will dig it out here soon. Thanks for the reminder.

Your Treet blades are on the way!

First time using this brand of cream and AS it's from Pacific shaving and it's caffeinated. I got it as a Christmas gift and had never really heard much about them. I must say the post shave feel is fantastic on this stuff plus a balm is a logical choice with this weather. I paired it with the JR 191, the EJ DE89 with a Feather, and whipped it up in an Old Spice mug.[IMG]

I thought it was a good one to start with. I also have a Gem 1912, EverReady 1912 and Gem Jr. I want to try it on. And somewhere in the depths of my collection I believe I have a Kampfe or Star that I have never used....

Very cool to use a 100 year old razor. :happy088:

Great photo Perry. It is odd to have two bad blades in a row.

Great looking photo and razor handle. If you stick with the Soap Destroyer you'll finish off some soaps this year.

My wife picked up some of the same cream for me to give a try. It really is good stuff.

I am feeling a little better this morning but I am glad this week is going by quickly. The 30DC Boar whipped up the Fine Platinum into a rich slick lather. I really enjoy using the Fine soaps but they do tend to leave that annoying white film on razors and brushes. Three passes and touch ups almost caught the baby which is more than good enough for today. A splash of Fine Platinum AS and I think I am ready for the day. I hope everyone has a great Thursday.

Yessss break out the Kampfe!!! Is the Gem Jr. a Jr. Bar? Looks like my newest Kampfe is more like a 1887 then 1898. I was really surprised to get that G3.

I'm trying to get use to razor. It's a bit more aggressive than I'm accustom to.
Preformed two passes: with and against the grain.
Results: DFS with only a couple weepers and a little irritation on my lower neck. Remedied with styptic pencil and shaving balm.

That's where I am with my Rte 66 Cavendish. Lots of metal to see, hard to say how many more shaves I can do. Wasn't it Lawrence Peter Yogi Berra who said "It ain't over til it's over? That Larry Berra sure had the funny quips.

I'll bet it BURIES the sample, eh? That's the trouble I had when I got the 2 oz. Clubman soap. I still have to practice the art of "scooping out" from the 2 oz. ones.

I've tried Pacific Shaving cream too, and was quite impressed for something you can pick up for under $10 at Target. Surprised me.

There are basically two different blade grinds that come out of Personna/ASR/Accutec these days , a two facet and a three facet grind. While Personna doesn't specifically make an SE blade for shaving anymore it is the 3 facet blades that we find to have acceptable performance. I wonder if you got a couple of two facet blades from tryablade.
Awesome looking handle and photo, John!
Good looking setup! I've seen that cream in the store, does it lather with a brush ?
Amazing photo Clint! Glad you are feeling a little better!
Beautiful razor and brush combo, Mark!
You may be using too shallow of an angle. With any Injector I shave with the cap almost flat against my face. At most its only a few degrees off.
