Happy Friday! Waiting to see a picture of the 30DC Tyke to make it official. Wednesday's shave with the Lord disposable shavette left me with some scabs from the corners digging in, so I wanted a nice easy shave today. Grabbed the Toggle and the blade I have the most luck with. Setting Neal and Russian steel. Good stuff. Used my destroyer class synthetic brush, a 28mm Ubersoft from Envy shave in a custom aluminum handle. It loaded a ton of the Van Yulay soap. Also lived up to it's name in that it destroyed the light plastic protective covering over the tin, so now I have a bunch of pieces of film in the soap. Added water slowly and built a great lather. Finished it off with Aqua Velva after two easy passes. BBS everywhere except my neck, and silent Alum.

Nice to see the Gem Jr giving you such consistently good results.

I noticed that too with my sample of Latha Sandalwood -- a lot of currant in the scent and not much sandalwood. I thought maybe it was due to the small size of the sample; guess not.

Great filer effect Jim. The brush does really have lather deep in the knot. I have found that painting on the lather releases a lot of it. Also, I just load so much soap that I still have a lot of lather at the tips.

    Great photo and setup Perry.

Lovely photo Adam. That brush does look great.

Wonderful photo Doug. Try to stay warm.

Great photo. The razor looks to be in fantastic shape.

    Face & Head Shave
Pre-shave: hot shower and Nivea Men Sensitive Face Wash
    Brush: Omega Boar 10049
    Soap: VDH Luxury
Razor: Gillette Fatboy E-4 (set at #9)
    Blade: Feather (4 or 5)
Post-shave: Dickinson's Original WH, Afta Original AS Skin Conditioner, Brut AS

I gave the shavette the day off so I could use my Fatboy on Friday. I set it to maximum for the head shave and just kept it there for the face shave, and it was a winner for both. I did one pass on the scalp and all I had to do afterwards is some clean-up for hair which I had missed the first time. The face shave was smooth and comfortable and overall just a really good shave.

    Have a great weekend everyone!

    January 12, 2018- Fatboy Friday

    Razor: F2 Gillette 195 Adjustable (5)
    Blade: Dorco Prime Platinum (3)
    Brush: Semogue 620
    Soap: Williams
    Post: Alum, Listerine, WH

Even though I've only used it once before, the Semogue 620 is starting to show some signs of breaking in. I got a great lather from the Williams and the Dorco was smooth in the Fatboy. BBS or nearly so and a great end to the week.

I think the WW soap is worth a try. I have mixed feelings about it.

    Pros:
    -Lather is quite good
-Most scents are strong (there are exceptions - Peace Pipe is very faint)
    -$6 for 2oz tins doesn't mean a deep commitment
    -Wide variety

    Cons:
-Small snuff tins = messy lathering unless you scoop and bowl lather
-Scents are hit or miss for me. A couple I really like though. Especially Pinkerton.
    -Labels are not waterproof

Nice gear, Neal. MoDot? Missouri Dept of Transportation?
Great photo!Sorry to hear about your dryer, Clint. I trust it didn't set off the fire alarm...
My wife hopes that our's dies a quick death, as she tells me we should have a stackable Washer and Dryer upstairs where all the bedrooms are to make packing laundry easier as we get older. I was going to respond with 'What does it matter, I'm the one who packs it all, anyway', but discretion is taking the better part of valour more often as I age.:)
Nice combo, Jim! I think I'll be joining you with my newly arrived CJB this weekend.
Might I direct you to the Pun thread, Perry?;)
The only GEM I have is the Jr I've used this week. Out of curiosity, what would be the difference with that razor and the G-Bar you used today? Is there much variation between GEMs?
    Cool looking brush handle, Adam.
Sorry for your freezing rain potential, Doug, but it does make for an awesome looking photo!
    Very cool, simple photo, Chris.
Sounds like a great shave, Dan. Enjoy your weekend.

January Jeeves & Fat Boy Friday

    Jeeves Bay Rum (molested)
    30 DC LE Cashmere Cypress
    Suribachi and warm water
    '59 Fat Boy (E-4) - number 9
    Pinaud Special Reserve AS

A couple drops of S.R. in the lather subtly altered the scent of the Bay Rum. It's difficult to be subtle with this AS/Cologne, but I've molested other lathers and it doesn't affect the soaps properties. Feather Hi-Stainless in the #195 and a synthetic brush produced a near flawless shave. I was texting with one of my sons while shaving and had a bad set down just under my chin. No blood during the shave, but a small scab formed afterwards. Otherwise all's well on the South Coast despite near freezing temps. A smooth DFS and an Indiana Jones finish.
    Good Shaves Y'all!

Yep,that would be them. Usually do a good job in the metro area. Seems like once a year they somehow miss the timing on a storm and we play pile up around the interstates. The good news this time was - very little precipitation actually came down and - MoDot pre-treated on schedule so we avoided the demolition derby.
