I took my big Napoleon back to the Thuri to see what a few more minutes would do. Yup, smoother and sharper. I think it could still use a few minutes more so you may be seeing this one again soon. :happy036:

Thank you for your kind words, Tim and I do agree with you that this brush is quite beautifully finished. However, I had nothing to do with it as Doug Korn turned the handle and I sent him the Epsilon knot that I harvested from the original Vie-Long brush that I bought on one of the BSTs. It is one of my loveliest brushes, especially, the handle. :)

Yeah. Doug Korn turned the handle for my brush that I use in my Terre d'Hermes shave kit. It's a great brush that matches my whole orange theme. It was fantastic work.

    WEDNESDAY'S SHAVE

Fragrance - Creed Royal Mayfair (bottle signed by Erwin Creed)
Aftershave - Catie's Bubbles "Royal Garden" Luxury Shave Soap Formula
Shave Soap - Catie's Bubbles "Royal Garden" Luxury Shave Soap Formula
    Deodorant - Punkee Herbals "Rose"
    Pre-Shave Oil - Lather & Wood "Unscented"
Post-Shave Balm - Nicci Marie Hyaluronic Acid Anti-Aging Serum
Razor - Antique Gillette ABC "Empire" Razor circa 1908-1912 (fully restored/re-plated in rhodium by Razor Emporium)
    Blade - BiC Chrome-Platnium *4th shave
Razor Stand - ThinkGeek Executive Knight Pen Holder
Brush - London Cutlers Modified/Restored Antique Silver Synthetic Boar Shave Brush circa 1890
Brush Stand - Jac Zagoory's Butterfly Pen Stand
Soap Mug - Antique Northwood Dandelion Amethyst Carnival Glass Mug circa 1912

Today was the first Grade-A BBS shave I've had from the ancient ABC-Old-Type. Previously I had sub-par shaves with this razor despite the fact that it's gorgeous looking. Now I've got a great shave. I think the razor-blade needed to get to the 4th shave to mellow out the aggressiveness of the razor. I currently have no post-shave irritation and super smooth skin. Very happy with my shave today and smell like a million bucks too.

Ok, you can't say I'm not willing to go the extra mile to get something to work. Out of respect for Fuzzy and a few others who seem to believe the dream that Williams can produce a great lather, I broke out my puck (talk about a hunt) and decided to try with a synthetic brush and some new technique ideas. I was only going to do one night of this but, after the result tonight and a bit more reading, I'm going again tomorrow. More on that in a minute.

My Williams puck was extremely dried out, given its been sealed in a tin for probably 18 months. I put in in my VDH bowl to soak a bit while I got ready. Didn't take long to improve its looks and seemed ready to go. I dumped the water off the puck and gave the brush its usual 10 second soak followed by some vigorous shakes. Then, I loaded that puck like I hated it.

I will say I got the most lather up that I ever have. Clearly the synthetic helped as did the beating I gave it. Got the brush well loaded and finished the lather on my face. First pass I actually had some soap on my face the entire pass. It was thin but slick and that was an improvement over my earlier efforts. For the second pass I went back and added a bit of water and I'm pretty sure that was the wrong move. Seemed like the lather broke and the second pass I had to rush to beat the fast retreating lather. One nick on my right jawline from rushing, took styptic to stop it. The alum was a bit warm and I know the irritation is a bit high.

So, here's my plan. Tomorrow I'm going to treat it like MWF. Wet puck, dry brush. I've seen others do that with success. I will say there was a lot of lather left in the bowl, but it was quite airy and more like foam than lather. We'll see if I can improve on that tomorrow.

Overall result is a DFS, so no worries there. And the slickness wasn't the issue at all. Just the quality of the lather.

Weird Al Yankovic on bathroom acoustics, “I had sent Dr. Demento a few home made tapes before that, and the Knack in the summer of 1979 was inescapable. I was a college radio DJ and every other request on the phone line was a request for ‘My Sharona.’ I had a stupid idea to make it a song about lunch meat, and I took my accordion across the hall because the bathroom had this acoustically perfect tiled vibe—the old Bathroom Wall Of Sound. I sent it to Dr. Demento in hopes that he would play it, and it became a big hit on the show."

Should I admit I've seen Al in concert twice? He's quite the entertainer.

Superb shave today. Easily built and slick lather with a unique scent. My skin is left smooth and ready for the cold. I've used the Cube about 50 times without making much of a dent in it.

My face is not only BBS, it's absolutely frozen-stiff after this shave with the Glacial Spearmint soap. The matching balm and the Snake Bite froze me even more. Did I ever have fun!

Hope you all have a great day!
