Smart move @Terry Williams. That is the best process I've come across to fully preserve a piece.

BTW CAP no longer does work on Black Beauties and RazorPlate no longer services Toggles.

I've got a couple pieces out to both now. An Eclipse Red Ring in white rhodium should be sweet. The other is is still in planning but it should be epic.

While I have not used them yet, I plan on sending one of my Gillette Slim Adjustables to Delta Echo Razor Works. I emailed them today to see if they can do something specific for me, I also asked a variety of questions.

While it's a little different that plating, they coat their razors in Gun-Kote and have a wide variety of colours.

    Here's a couple nice examples:

Ok what do you have up your sleeve that is going to be epic?

Don't think the baked on ceramic was even available when Gillette was building these razors. That wouldn't stop me from having one done in some cool non-traditional colors. I have heard the finish is very smooth and gives different, maybe even better shave than nickle/ gold/ etc plating.

I too have heard the same about the smooth finish on their razors. I decided to get one done in a special theme and keep my 64 Slim original since it's in great condition. I get the best of both worlds, one original and one unique to its own.

Anybody interested in acquiring a jewelers quality playing system, my gear which is beakers, rhodium and 18K rose gold solution, anodes etc, feel free to contact me. With the golf solutions you must nickel plate first, and that solution costs about $40. I have the different anodes and such.

It’s not hard to do, it just takes some practice and getting the steps right. YouTube hells a lot.

I used my gear for watch work mostly but my eyes are getting too bad. The priciest thing is shipping as the heavy duty playing systems are heavy in weight.

Of course low quality stuff is an electrical hazard...

If curious pm me. We can work it out.

@champagneinhand - I understand this is a thread where replating is the topic, but I need to point you to the Classifieds section of The Marketplace. Knowing there are many do-it-yourself types here at TSD it will get more views, and The Powers That Be insist we keep offers to sell in that thread.

Thanks James for the welcome I've actually been a member for a while but changed my profile etc cause I hadn't used it for a long time. Just used to visit to see what was going on. Your razor will certainly be unique for sure as I know we think alike. LOL

I have had razors GunKote-d by both Delta Echo and NorthShore. DE has a few more options for coating, but both do outstanding work.

Wow they all look great! Really like the military themes. I’m working on one as well with Cap, Chris, Scott and Aaron at Frugal Shave. It’s a joint effort but won’t be done till spring.

Love to see these coated razor photos being posted up.

    Hello everyone,

I found my grandfather's old razor. Where can I get this restored in the UK/EU ?

Nice find. Being your grandfather's makes it an even nicer find. It looks like all it really needs is a good soak in some warm soapy water and a scrubbing.

This is post soak and scrub. I wanted to get this professionally restored and plated. Shipping to the US and return shipping makes that prohibitively expensive. Looking for other options

Your choices will be very limited keeping it in the UK/EU, sorry can't help with recommendations over there. But keep in mind, since it is a mix of metals many will not do replating on it. You may only be able to find someone to clean it and polish it.

Baked on ceramic coating may be an option unless you want to restore to the original look. There is a fairly recent discussion on doing nickle plating in your own kitchen/garage.

The handle on that Gillette is aluminum, but the rest is nickle plated brass. You'd have to do some serious disassembly to plate it right.

I just got a reply from Chris of Razorplate who said the same thing. Captain Murphy who he works with stopped working on these.
What's this baked on ceramic option you speak of ?
