Thursday January 18 - still partly Jeeves, otherwise off Focus

Gillette English Flaretip Rocket / vintage Gillette Platinum Plus ( 5 )
Semogue Owners Club cherrywood boar brush
    Arko
    Alum and Jeeves Barbershop splash

With all the talk of Williams and Arko on the thread, I realized I haven't let my Arko stick out to play for at least a couple of months. (I have an unopened puck of Wiliams too; I last used Williams about two years ago, which is still too recent to worry about revisiting it.) To face lather the Arko, I used my boar brush, which has also been neglected.

Good lather. Good two-pass shave. Alum was a little warm in spots but no real irritation and certainly no blood. I went with the Barbershop splash to keep some Jeeves in the mix.

I am spruced up, perked up, and ready for my night shift.

Yeah. I have been inspired to add travel packs of disinfectant wipes to my shopping list. I think I will start keeping them at home, in my car glovebox, in my briefcase, in my around-town backpack, and also in my carry-on luggage anytime I travel by air...

    Shavettes and Jeeves January!

    January 18 - Jeeves Samples Day 1

    Razor - Fatip Piccolo
    Blades - rapira-platinum-lux.jpg (1)
Soap - Jeeves of Hudson Street Abyss
    Brush - Jayaruh #54
    Post - Alum

Thursday night is my new head shave night so the Shavette theme worked with the CJB Greager pain stick again. Kai mild blade, Arko, fine shave, no blood, no problems at all.

Jeeves January returns for me with some samples that arrived. I chose the Abyss, just because I had to pick one, and it lathered right up with the JR54. Same great lather the Bay Rum produces and the scent is a bit floral. I can't find a description anywhere so we'll go with that. My sense of smell is not well developed like some, though I recognized BBQ, Garlic and burgers on the grill without a problem. Very nice and somewhat light scent to this soap.

Two passes and a little touch up with the Fatip and Rapira PL (chosen because it was the first Russian blade within reach) and it's a near-BBS at least. Maybe better. I like the Abyss and will use it a couple more shaves before moving on.

I think I’ve figured out my focus for the whole year! I’m going to do a couple of weeks of artisan products followed up with a couple of weeks of mass market products. Then from March on I’m going to pick a couple of combinations one artisan one mass market and use just those two for the whole month.

I thought I read somewhere that Abyss included coffee and chocolate and rose among other scents...

Incidentally, that's a great looking 400-style brush you have!

    SOTD for January 19, 2018

Prep: Cold water with Stirling mentholated pre-shave soap
    Blade: Personna
    Razor: Schick G4 '66' injector
    Brush: Omega 10049 boar
    Soap: Mitchell's Wool Fat
Post: Witch hazel, Fine American Blend aftershave
    WTG, touch up

Really easy and enjoyable shave. The blade trials with the Schick 66 continue with the Personna. I have been quite pleased with the performance of the Personna, particularly since I had written these blades off over a year ago due to a bad experience. Trying them again is proving they are great injector blades. I could use Chick, Personna, or Proline each with ease and comfort. I like all three of those blade choices.

I'm continuing the blades in the 66 as well as trying stainless, coated, and carbon in the G-Bar. It's been a good month so far!

I am totally out of my routine this week due to school being cancelled every day until today. But we also are holding the state music conference now (started yesterday) so I was scheduled to be out anyway. I actually will need to go in to work and get some pressing paperwork done and then head on to the conference. Totally out of routine! Oh well - it is what it is. Sometimes I need reminding that it could be much, much worse.

    Have a great day!

Oxford Razor Handle with unknown head
    Feather
    Oxford brush with TGN Finest
    CRSW Jeff’s Soap
    Fine L’Orange Noir

A short break from my focus on boar brushes this month. My wife gave me this razor and brush set for Christmas. She bought it at a local craft festival. I am very fortunate that she supports my hobby. The brush originally had some sort of badger like hair installed. When I tried to wash the brush, bristles just fell out like crazy so I just pulled hard an the entire knot feel out. No worries a quick order of TGN and a new finest knot arrived. Given the way the handle was made, I was unable to set the knot as deep as I would normally prefer, so I was pleasantly surprised at how well the brush works. It easily loaded and lathered the Jeff's Soap. With a fresh Feather blade loaded, I went with a traditional 3 pass shave. The razor head is on the mild side and I needed more touch ups to end up with my usual results. Overall an excellent shave with a razor and brush that are special because she picked them out for my gift. A splash of Fine L'Orange Noir and I am ready for this work week to be over. I hope everyone has a great Friday.

    CJB Pain Stick
    Stirling Unscented PSB

A repeat of my Wednesday set up, and similar results. Nice shiny, slick lather paired with a Pain Stick resulted in a near BBS. My Friday is off to a great start. I hope everyone has a great day!

I'm headed off on a business trip tomorrow and after reading this thread I feel like I need one of those. However, after you guys instilled paranoia in me, I fortuitously found a "green option" in my online check in to refuse housekeeping services and get 500 extra Marriott Points per night. 2 birds. 1 stone. Cha-ching.

In shaving news I've been following the focus of experimenting with shave patterns and grain patterns. Today one N-S pass (which is WTG above my chin and XTG on my neck), followed by one ATG pass. Two pass DFS+ shaves are a pretty standard deal now as long as the second pass is ATG. I may add the @wchnu trick of the "witch hazel clean up pass" and start experimenting with three pass options, depending on how close I decide I want any given shave to be.
