  1. Thank you Jim. It was nice to get out of the house and away from the day to day stresses for the afternoon.
  2. 86.1 mph through the mountains is relaxing? Yikes, Ida been white knuckling it with you.

  4. Just a beautiful vista, Brian. Congratulations. I do get down into northern Idaho once in a while, but I must admit I haven’t been anywhere near as far south in Idaho as Boise. The geography looks quite a bit different than in the north part of the state as well.

  5. I hear you. And what the Hell is a guy supposed to do with that?

    Punt, and wear nothing.

  6. Nice set up, Keith. I know you are not wild about the Barrister’s Reserve Soaps, but I understand that the Reserve Fern is a dupe of that Houbigant Fogere Royal.

  7. I went several years of wearing nothing. I make her suffer now, just hopefully not too much. :)

  8. Thanks, Jared. Full confession, though- I do play with the colours quite often with the photo program on my computer. They often don’t look quite like that when I take them.

  11. This thread has the best razor porn on the net. Hands down. There has to be 8-10 if you that consistently take incredible photos.

  12. A few of the folks on here with connections to Europe have mentioned the cream once or twice, but not very often. Cool that it worked well for you, Dan.

  13. They don’t look screwed with, for the most part, either. So I guess you still get the unicorn.

  14. The ones I have tried I love the scents but it is hit or miss on the lather. If I can find a way to consistently good lather I will definitely try the Reserve Fern. Thanks for the tip.
  15. Out of time and out of focus Monday.

Just partially out of focus, I am almost to the end of this tube of R66. Monday morning with the Cobra Classic, I can shave faster with this razor than any other, outside of my straights my top two safety razors are my 2011 R41 and my Cobra Classic. Wet slick lather and quick, excellent shave to start the week.

Razor: Cobra Classic (Feather Pro 3)
    Brush: Whipped Dog
    Pre: Proraso
    Soap: R66
AS: Fine Vetiver AS, Edwin Jagger ASB
    Scent: Zoologist Elephant

    Shavettes and Jeeves January!

    January 21 - Jeeves Samples Day 4

    Razor - 1959 (E4) Gillette Fatboy
    Blades - voskhod-teflon-coated.jpg (2)
Soap - Jeeves of Hudson Street Velvet Jacket
    Brush - Jayaruh #54
    Post - Alum

We have a change to the program tonight. You'll notice the picture shows Jeeves Private Study but the soap I actually used is Velvet Jacket. No mistake, just the fact I discovered that Private Study is Bay Rum in an earlier package. I have the Bay Rum in a container and have used it lots so I moved on to Velvet Jacket, which is touted as being Tobacco and Bay Leaf scented. Back to the Fatboy and Voskhod and the JR54 for the lather.

Lather was easy and plentiful, as is to be expected from Jeeves. The scent, however, leaves much to be desired. Not that it's a bad scent. Nor that it's an offensive scent. Basically, it's no scent at all that I can really detect. Some soaps do have a subtle scent, like the Abyss, but this one is so subtle it pretty much isn't there. I had my wife try smelling it without telling her what I was looking for and she finally said she could just barely detect some bay leaf. Disappointing. Soaps don't have to be offensive in how strong their scents are and, in fact, subtlety can work very well. But if you really can't detect the scent what's the point? Arko is easy to lather and cheap. So is VDH. So is Williams (for some). If the scent profile isn't enough to add something to the shave then it's throwing money away to pay more than those three standards.

I'm not done with this one yet. I left a good lather in the bowl with what's left of the sample and bagged it until tomorrow. Sometimes that will help the scent become more dominant. One final note on scent, I always squeeze the lather out of the brush before rinsing and play with it in my hand to determine its thickness etc. The soap feels great, lathers great, is slick as it should be, but even after the squeeze test I can barely detect a scent on my hand. Usually I can smell the soap for the rest of the evening even after rinsing off.

As for the shave? Two pass, touch up, BBS. No complaints with that at all.

  19. You're trying to force me to pull the Marvy's out again aren't you. I see your evil intent. You can't fool me. And I won't give in easily (I think I saw it on the second shelf......wait......who's saying that.......stop the voices!) I do love the 1918 and the whole vintage feel you have there!
  20. I have the Tobacco/Bay Leaf in an A/S and it is very nicely scented, Neal. It is also quite long lasting. I have experienced a ‘no-scenter’ with one Jeeves soap as well, though. I got Apothecary almost a year ago, and it is very faintly scented. Almost unscented. My KeyLime I got from Adam is very adequately scented, however. It looks like there is quite a bit of variance on scent strength tub to tub.
