You are wrong, friend! There's a reason modern stuff is different: it's better! I enjoy authentic pizza, but you'll never convince me it is the best. Never! never!
Oddly enough, I miss the pizza I used to get at an Italian restaurant in Kortrijk Belgium. having said that, I have met very few pizzas I didn't like. Bill Mahr once said, sex is like pizza. When it is good, it is very good. When it is bad, it's still pretty good.
Honestly, though, the best pizza I ever had was in Beziers, France. It came with a sunny side up egg right in the center. The wine certainly added to the experience.
With an EGG?! You must have had a lot of that wine BEFORE the pizza arrived. Though I have to say, it does look good!
I'm just about to leave the office to enjoy a Pakistani meal with a client, but that pizza looks absolutely delicious.
I'm certainly no expert on US-style pizzas, but I had a great pizza at Pizzeria Uno in Chicago! Otherwise I must concur with Klaus, woodfired stone oven baked pizza in Italy is just the best! Can't beat the original!
I delivered Pizza all through college, lived, breathed and bathed in the stuff. These days I'll take a Digornio, or Pizza Hut if I'm feeling really rich.
Pepi's Pizza on Howell In Milwaukee. Been going there since I was 8 or 9 - Call it about 30 years or so.
Ah, I don't know. I'll take pure ingredients over layers and layers of canned, industrially produced ingredients, flavor enhancers, glutamates and preservatives any time. Sometimes the more simpler something is, the better. But, well, that's just me
WHAT? I've lived here for 5 years. Why is this the first time I'm hearing about this place? I'm just glad you didn't say Pizza Man has the best in Milwaukee. I wouldn't feed it to a dog.
Found this link a while back. Provides some great insight, and has some reviews of NY Pizza. Happy reading. Jeff Varasano's Famous New York Pizza Recipe By the way. NY pizza is by far the best. If you're favoring any type of chain pizza, you just don't get it.
The best pizza I ever ate was at one of Wolfgang Puck's restaurants in Las Vegas in the Venitian. I can't remember the name of the restaurant but it was really damn good. Wolfgang has recently put out a freezer version of his pizza which I actually really, really like. At my local grocery store its in the natural foods section in the freezer. I highly recommend trying it if you're a pizza lover.
Wishoot, Some other good Milwaukee places = Oakland Trattoria, Marco's in Oak Creek & Mama Mia's in West Allis. What are you normal pizza spots to hit?
I'm having a tough time adjusting to Wisconsin pizza after living in Chicago for 20 years. Worse still, I live in Ozaukee County. I'm less than a mile away from Tomaso's pizza which I find to be about as below average as you can get. Pizza Man on North Ave. is a complete joke. The best pizza I found in the Milwaukee area is Calderone Club. It still does not compare with my beloved Lou Malnati's in Chicago (Buffalo Grove to be exact), but it's pretty darn good. I hear good things about Zaffiros on Prospect, but have not tried it yet.
I love Chicago style pizza, but as Jordan said, it's not really pizza...it's a casserole. Unfortunately, around here, there are no really outstanding pizza restaurants. We have the usual chains with a fair share of mom and pops, but I really haven't found one that stands out. In fact, casserole or not, chain or not, I'd have to say that the best pizza around here is Uno's. 100 miles from New York and the best pizza is Chicago style. Go figure. At least I don't live in LA where they put asparagus or watercress on them. :sick007
Although Lou Malnati's is based in Chicago, it's not your typical deep-dish Chicago style pizza. It's sort of thin, crispy, buttery, and amazing. Uno is okay as is Gino's, but I agree that it's not really pizza.
