Cartel HQ, in the spirit of full disclosure to all shavers, offers this daily injury report. The cut that I managed to inflict on my left cheek last night is truly a thing of beauty. My initial diagnosis was a small, maybe 1/8 to 1/4 inch slice, the exact nature of how it happened a bit unknown. The blade did stick just slightly as it happened and my assumption was the blade tip just dug and cut. Alum and aggressive styptic treatment stopped the bleeding and all seemed fine.

When I woke up this morning and looked in the mirror my left cheek had several areas of dried blood visible, though there was no visible blood on my pillow. I washed it off, went about my day off morning routine, and then took my shower. Upon leaving the shower I looked and realized that the injury is actually a "filet" cut with a small nick just below. From the look of the cut, and the small flap of skin involved, I think the blade stuck and then as I continued the stroke it pivoted inward and downward creating the filet effect. The nick underneath was probably done as I pulled up and I do remember feeling a slight twinge.

Prognosis from the Cartel medical team is generally good. They have recommended an extra shot (or two) of vodka, mostly to make sure and sanitize the cut through the inner cheek. They have also recommended I take the day off from shaving and allow things to heal before resuming again. Who am I to argue with Russian doctors?

I hate it when the power goes out. At least you were able to get the shave in.

No surprises at work. I have been very successful at getting a lot of the projects across the finish line. :happy093:

Great photo Doug. The knot in the brush does really look like a horse hair knot.

Thank you, Jason! The dog is an 8 month lab puppy, who weighs about 80 lbs. Amazingly, he was very calm, and laid down to watch. He is getting to be too big to wrestle, so I am glad none of that was involved this morning.

If you were two months late to the cartel the soap couldn't save you. But you can still beat it like you mean it. Enjoy life before Boris and Yuri show up. :ahem:

    Weber SS
    Perma-Sharp Super (5)
    Simpson Chubby 2 Super
    C.O. Bigelow shaving cream
Unrefined shea butter and Terre d’Hermès Parfum

I'm hangin' in there with my focus on Russian DE blades and mastering the Soap Destroyer. I completed two passes and some chasing on the lower neck for a near BBS shave today. I'm guessing at 5 shaves on the Perma-Sharp Super blade. It was still performing fine, but I swapped it out for a new Polsilver SI blade while I had my razor disassembled for cleaning. I just about finished up a tube of C.O. Bigelow this morning. I'm gonna give the tube a Jethro squeeze tomorrow to finish out what's left. I believe I have the Soap Destroyer dialed in and broken in now. I'll be ready for a new setup in February.

I'm playing around with my DSLR. As you can see, I need more practice. :)

I hope everyone is doing great. I'm 300+ posts behind and have some catching up to do. For some reason, I can't erase @PickledNorthern's statement about bowing down to @clint64's Iron Butt from my mind. I'll give Jared the benefit of the doubt this time. It's quite obvious to me that I can't leave you guys unsupervised for any significant length of time. :happy097:

We had a beautiful sunshiny day here that made it into the 50s. It is projected to be 61 F and sunny tomorrow. That's my kinda winter weather.

What is up with all the eyeball avatars?

Back to the focus of finishing up some soaps:

The Haslinger is getting close to the end, I am loading it like it owes me money, is 30 days late and avoiding my calls. The 'Saga" is fresh off the pasted strops and had a wonderful edge. So close to epic but the BBS didn't last enough to be described as epic, I will settle for excellent.

    Irritation A+ Closeness A Smoothness A+ Sharpness A+

    Razor: Art Razor ‘Saga’
    Stop: Drygulch black latigo
    Brush: Romero
    Pre: Nivea
    Soap: Haslinger
AS: Luck Tiger AS, L’Occitanne ASB
    Scent: Knize Ten

Thank you, Jim! Gotta play with my depth of field settings on the DSLR. Hope to do better as I get back into it!
