January 25 - Head Shave Only

Razor - CJB Greager Pain Stick
    Blades - [IMG]
    Soap - Arko
    Brush - VDH Boar
    Post - Heisenberg pass

In spite of being on the injury report from yesterday, I still got a shave in tonight. I had forgotten about my head shave, and there was no reason not to go ahead and get it done. My head, fortunately, is not close to my left cheek, shaving-wise anyway. So, I grabbed the Arko and VDH brush and picked up the Greager in order to stay within the shavette focus another night. That makes this:

An officially sanctioned [IMG] Brotherhood of the Pain Stick Shave.

Great Arko lather, which is why I use it on my head, and a somewhat shaky beginning. I had one of those unsettled moments we talk about with straights and pain sticks - where you're supposed to put it down and pick up a safer alternative. Well, I am the Czar, so why would I doubt my abilities to settle myself down and continue? I took a few breaths, found my shaving Zen happy place and went to work. Throughout the right side around my ear I still felt a bit "off" but it soon settled down as I got past my ear. I went to the left side to clear around the ear and had a great pass going. Then i hit a bad set down just behind and above my left ear and felt the zing. Nice cut about half the length of the blade, though it didn't bleed much. Said a few words and moved on.

The back of my head and then the chrome dome went well except for a few near misses on the setdown again. Yeah, I probably should have aborted when that first doubt hit my mind, but in the end I managed to get a great head shave done. I finished with the Heisenberg pass as always and checked the cut. Nothing visible except the thinnest of lines. I escaped that one pretty well I'd say.

Hopefully tomorrow night I can return for the two day growth face shave. The cut on my cheek appears to be healing nicely. Have a great Friday!!

    YESTERDAY'S SHAVE
    20180124_113015.jpg

    Prep: pre shave soap mix
    Razor: Razorock Hawk
    Brush: Razorock Plissoft
Soap: Wholly Kaw Merchant Of Tobacco
Post: HEV Cognac & Cuban Cigars balm

Excellent shave yesterday. Scooped some soap and loaded In the copper bowl, as a result I accidently underloaded and had to strech the lather I did have to make it thru the shave. The post shave was top notch, especially Considering the small amount of lather I had to work with. BBS shave finished off with Cognac & Cuban Cigars balm just to make sure no damage was done.

    TODAY'S SHAVE
    20180126_001415.jpg

    Prep: Occams Crushed Lime
    Razor: Wilkinson Sword Classic
    Blade: Gillette Black (1st shave)
    Brush: Razorock Plissoft
    Soap: Perfectly Natural Grapefruit IPA
Post: Stirling MITA WH, Stirling MITA Balm

Had a uneventful shave this evening. Had a bit of trouble lathering the soap, this is their old formula and although it is harder to load than the new stuff, it works quite well. The newer formula bumped the steric acid twards the top of the list making it easier to lather, but despite the fact, I really like this somewhat unknown artisan. Post shave and residual slickness are top notch, have been quite impressed with the performance of Perfectly Natural soaps as well as their deodorant. The scent of Grapefruit IPA pairs great with Stirling MITA so finished up with the witch hazel and matching balm. Hope everyone is doing well and getting great shaves!

I don't normally post up here, but I just feel good. Took the clippers to my head and reduced what hair is left down to minimum height, did a full head and face scrub, and a face shave in the shower. Aristocrat, Astra SP, and ARKO. Even with three days growth, it was a quick two pass shave with no particular irritation. Not BBS, but I don't do that unless I'm going out with my wife to something formal. Just DFS.

Outstanding shave with one of my favorite scents, and the only set I have backed up. I got four excellent shaves with this Personna Platinum blade and I'm very impressed with it. There was very little burn from the splash, leaving my skin feeling and smelling great.

I have many Semogue's the 1250 boar is quickly becoming my favorite - It is very similar to the 820 but with the bigger wooden handle - the hairs just get softer and softer after every use. It is a little floppy so I can paint the lather on, but still plenty of back bone for the croaps I use most fo the time...
