Oh I'm definitely going to at least try a SR someday, be it with popsicle sticks or a real one .

Very good. It's all technique driven. I'd suggest you learn on a real SR, when the season for you arrives. It's the best way to go. Shavettes are more tedious, but still an option, @PickledNorthern (Jared) learned on a shavette, maybe he has thoughts. I learned on a real straight, but didn't want another hobby in the form of honing. As a result, I am a daily shavette user now. The reason I use shavette is because open blade shaving is my favorite and most comfy method. Switching back to SR is easy should I choose that, and occasionally I will use a real one.

The 2 DE you should master first is whatever you're on now, followed by a Fatip OC.

Then Schick G or E. Or any SE, like a 1924.

If you're automatic in these safety razors, believe me, you can can easily make the jump.

You're familiar with riding the cap. The safety bar shouldn't really be in play for you anyhow, if you're applying the pressure to the cap side of the blade.

That technique teaches you how to "feel the blade edge, in a good way." That's what competent SR shaving is all about.

No safety bar is just a leap of faith. If you're not carving up your face with a Schick E, you'll have plenty of razor control for smooth open blade shaves.

(sorry for the typos if any, on a phone, no glasses....)

English Gillette Aristocrat Jr #51 or #53 / vintage Gillette Platinum Plus ( 3? )
Semogue Owners Club cherrywood boar brush
    Jeeves Private Study soap
Alum and Generic WH and Clubman VIBR

I went back to my English Gillettes today. I wasn't in a floral mood though, so I ditched the Jeeves Cherry Blossom and went with their excellent bay rum and orange instead. On the other hand, I wanted a pure strong bay rum to finish, so I paired it with Clubman VIBR instead of the Jeeves Bay Rum splash, and used some generic witch hazel first for the skincare.

The generic WH is fine for use on insect bites and rashes, but the Thayers seems much better and also pleasanter smelling as an aftershave. Of course, the Thayers has ingredients like glycerin as well as the witch hazel...

It wasn't one of my greatest shaves today. I thought I loaded the boar brush heavily, but it had barely enough in it for one pass when I face lathered. I definitely do better face lathering with a synthetic or badger. Then, as I whizzed along with my razor, I managed to nick myself just under my right nostril and again in the crease under the left side of my mouth. I decided a one-pass acceptable CCS was good enough, and quit. And eventually used a styptic pencil on the two tiny weepers since the alum, coldwater rinse, witch hazel and splash hadn't shut them down. Oh well, tomorrow is another shave.

At least Rex enjoyed supervising the photograph:

Once I master the de, I'm definitely going to try SR....just because I loved sitting in the barber shop with my Dad as a kid and watching in awe as men trusted their necks to these gentlemen who seemed to multitask and shave someone at the same time . My Dad only used the SR on occasion ,but man when he did it I had to watch him . Time seemed to stand still .
And yeah large thumbs , no glasses and phones are a bad combo for me too

We have stuff that's two months late?!?!!!!????

    What?

Oh sorry. Misread that. Was concerned we were slipping.

Our clients stay on time, but not because we are a worldwide, resourceful, cunning and silent steel cartel, or any silly fears around that. Our accounts stay current because we have the best clients in the world.

    ;)

You do know that Yakuza are community organizations that take care of the forgotten people? But, I digress....

Well since I hired Natalia most of our late accounts are paying ahead. It was either pay ahead or have to take her out to dinner.

That's actually why we all do it. It's not a macho thing or anything like that. It's just being able to, and the confident feeling of accomplishment that comes with any tedious skill.

Stop shaving. Just try to barely feel the blade as you try to gently and completely remove the lather from your skin. This is a fine level of control. Once you can do this regularly without any irritation, and have good skin stretches, you can actually use any razor style you like. At that point it's about learning grips and angles. The touch is the same.

We let it happen on purpose, we need an example for others because it’s been along time since we had a delinquency. :susel:
