2nd use of the Yahk soap that I received as an Xmas gift from the inlaws. Nothing different to report after this 2nd use- a better than expected lather and a dislike of the small tub. I think I mentioned last time that they are a well established local bar soap company which is known for goat’s milk soaps. This SS, much to my perplexion, doesn’t have any of their signature ingredient. I have nothing else like this scent-wise. Maybe TSE Beach Bum a bit. It is a keeper, but I am going to talk to them about their tubs if I get out that way.
3 passes later, and only a little area on my jawline stops me from feeling completely smooth. The GEM is a definite keeper, and gets me consistently good shaves. Finished with one of my favourite scents- Gentleman.
    Have a great day all!

    January 26, 2018- Fatboy Friday

    Razor: F2 Gillette 195 Adjustable (5)
    Blade: Gillette Platinum Plus (1)
    Brush: 30DC LE/Pure Badger
    Cream: KMF fragrance-free
    Post: Alum, Listerine, WH

It's Friday, so its time to bring out the Fatboy. For this shave, I'm taking a break from the Dorco Prime Platinum and breaking out the Gillette Platinum Plus. I didn't shave yesterday, so I'm working with an optimal two days of growth.

The result was that everything came together for a issue-free BBS. A pleasant end to the week.

The good news is that it grows back and you get to try again tomorrow. I find the British Aristocrat Jr a mild shaver, but haven’t tried vintage blades in it.
Have fun judging tomorrow, Perry. The ‘66’ is certainly getting a lot of attention lately, and rightfully so.
Beautiful gear, Clint. Are those green leaves at the top of the picture? :sad024:
The only soaps in the past year that I’ve been able to get that far into are Stirling samples as well. Are you planning to pick up the newer Port au Prince in mutton, Jim?

Took a break from my soap focus today, so I could finish off my scraps. When I split up the tubs of Jeeves for Christmas presents, I took the little bit of scraps off the spoon and out of the tubs and shoved them into a bowl. I would guess it ended up being about an ounce in the bowl. (All the pucks I sent out were between 2 and 4 ounces.) I have been using an unopened tub for photos with it, but today I wanted to kill the Bay Rum in the bowl off. So I am counting this as one soap down in 2018. Used the Toggle today, with a fresh Gillette 7 o'clock black blade in it. Dialed it down from setting Neal to Neal's favorite setting of 6. Also remembered that when I did a mostly DE shaving, I didn't do a third pass. I do a third pass with a straight, but don't get a lot of irritation from it. My DEs in the last few months have been beating me up pretty bad with irritation. So today I limited it to two passes, N/S and S/N. I did no touch ups. The blade wasn't quite as bad on this setting. Ended with a low grade DFS, but most importantly, zero irritation and silent alum. Happy Friday, all!!!

Thanks, Jason. I have focused on the '66' and the G-Bar this month. Those are the only two razors I've used and I'm trying different blades in each one. That way I can keep the razor consistent and evaluate the blade a little better. The '66' has been a fun and comfortable razor all month.

Thank you, Clint. Well, I like this one. Not sure I'll start exploring other GEM styles, as I do love my favourite DEs and Injectors, but I probably wouldn't say no to good deal on another model in an antique store somewhere after my NB is over.

Thank you Jason. We have a lot of evergreen plants around the house. We are back to our typical January weather with lows in the low 30 F and highs in the low to mid 50F. We usually only have sporadic really cold weather that doesn't last too long. Earlier this month is was much worse than usual.

I have tried to like injectors. Actually had 3 different models and really never liked them and stayed with my Artist Club Razor. @PLAla received two as gifts and I traded one for a Gem Damaskeene in the case with blade bank.

Wonderful lineup and photo Adam. Congrats on killing off the soap. I have a couple on the verge of being dusted as well.

I really like how the focus is on the Simpson label, Charlie! Well done!
    That is one cool straight!
More blood from the pain stick? Time for a refresher focus ?
    Nice photos, John! Hi Rex!
So glad that the Personna is working for you Perry! You cant beat that price for an injector blade.
Beautiful photo Clint! Glad to see the Wolfman getting some much deserved attention!
    Awesome shot Jim!
Go after it with a Destroyer class or bigger brush and watch it disappear in front of your eyes!
Fantastic shot Jason! If the soap is a keeper you might consider rehoming it into a larger container.
Nice shot Adam! I'm somewhat surprised to see your DE's getting as much action as they are.

Yep, the first razor that came to me was the G1, which is still my favorite injector. The next injector I PIFed over to a wet shaving convert. He loves it!

Thanks, its not like finishing off a tub, but it's nice to get something gone.
Honestly, I am too. I have used DEs more in the last month than I did through out 2017. Its kind of a nice change.

I think everywhere was quite a bit colder than usual earlier this month, Clint.
I'm really just joking about the weather comments, anyway. Even though we are at the edge of the Rocky Mountains, we really are quite mild compared to much of the rest of the country. It is only the coastal regions that are significantly warmer in the winter than here. I enjoy winter, and enjoy the 'playing' I get to do during it. We have a few world class ski hills close by, and my kids and I have season's passes. Just when skiing in the mountains is ending at the beginning of April, the golf courses in the valley are opening. It is a nice lifestyle.

Kept this morning shave to a two pass XTG/AXTG. Shaves with this razor this week have been very close but have felt rather harsh. This one is probably going to be moving on to a new home. In its place I've decided to add a MMOC and A MMCP to my collection as the SE razors are vastly outnumbered by my DE's and Injectors. I finished off with with my homemade tangerine AS and ended up with a DFS. Looking forward to next week and next month and I think I'm going to make it a Fancy February with my RR Mamba, Schick Type D, #58 Aristocrat, and Gold Ever-Ready 1912 to round out the lineup. Have a great weekend my friends!
