    Shavettes and Jeeves January!

    January 30

Soap - Jeeves of Hudson Street Bay Rum
    Brush - 30DC LE

Next to last day of January but it's the final day for my January focus shaves. Since February is only 28 days I'm starting my February shaves tomorrow and running through March 1 to get a full 30 days in. Tonight's shave is actually a set up to make sure I get into February on the right note. Stayed with the safe and comfy '47 SS and Voskhod. One more day of the Jeeves Bay Rum with the LE brush for the win! Two passes to a DFS with no reaction from the alum which is exactly where I want to be to start tomorrow.

My recap of my January shaves - I didn't use the pain sticks or shavette as much as I intended but I got focused on the Jeeves soap. I have no complaints at all about their product. I got to try some samples as well as the Bay Rum and they all lather incredibly well and have an interesting range of scents. I'd like to see some new scents from them in the future and look forward to watching their company grow and expand!

Don't let my being done with January a day early stop you! One more day and it's been another great month. Not a record setter like December but.....we're way ahead of January last year!! Thanks to everyone for your continued support and participation. You are what makes this place great!!

    Thanks, Jason!
The last couple of hours, I've been busy trying to catch up on 30DC posts. I have about 100 to go through still, but I'm headed to bed soon. I will get pictures of the brushes and mugs out tomorrow. I know how important it is to get shave gear-porn posted. :)

Dan @sdguero, when using heavily mentholated products like Osage Rub, it's usually a sensible precaution to rinse off your hands immediately after applying them. Just ask Adam @Drygulch -- he didn’t after applying Osage Rub, then absentmindedly scratched an itch in a private area. He described the experience in a post here, which resulted in him being given the Custom Title of "Snow Balls"...

Another shave, same results: one pass CCS. This is a new AS, and I really like the scent. We'll see how it wears all day. I hope everyone has a great day!

The final shave of the month was uneventful which is a great thing on a Wednesday morning. The Jeeves Bay Rum continues to impress me with its easy lathering, slickness and great scent. I went back to a 3 pass shave but with 2 XTG passes followed by an ATG pass. After touch ups along my jawline and lower right neck, I just missed catching the baby but that is par for the course. A splash of Krampert's Bay Rum was a wonderful end to the shave. My initial impressions of Krampert's is very positive but I will use it a few more times before commenting. I hope everyone has a great Wednesday.

    January 2018 Recap

Another month in the record books. I think this month's thread has really been a good start to the year. I set out to concentrate on boar brushes this month and for the most part I was successful. The 30DC LE handle with an Omega boar knot continues to be a real winner. The handle is so ergonomic which makes the brush a joy to use. I did add two brushes to the den this month and sent two to new homes. I added a Thäther boar brush that I used 18 times during the month. The knot in the Thäter is dense and is proving to break in quickly.

I have enjoyed following the thread during the month. The camaraderie of the 30DC is one of the highlights each day. I look forward to participating with you guys again next month.

I didn't put a wrap up of the month in my earlier post, so here it is:

It has been an eye opening month for me. I had put away the straights due to time constraints and moved back to safety razors for 99% of my shaves. I had a thing against using a shavette on a regular basis for some reason, but this month has changed that. After a few shaves of finding my technique again, I have gotten to where I can get a consistent one pass CCS or better with a shavette. I will be keeping these in my rotation more often. I will pick up my safety razors again, as there are some time benefits with them and with several of these, I can go on autopilot. But, shavettes will definitely have a place going forward.

The best part of this month though, has been getting to know a few new folks on here and continued good times. Thank you all for the fun.

    Jeeves January Finale

Prep: Cold water and Stirling mentholated pre-shave soap
    Blade: Schick Proline
    Razor: Schick G4 '66' injector
    Brush: Zenith B02 boar
Lather: Jeeves of Hudson Street Bay Rum
Post: Witch hazel, Jeeves of Hudson Street Black Tea aftershave
    WTG, touch up

Fine shave today. The Zenith boar sent to me by Clint was fantastic. Soft bristles with luxurious face feel. Really enjoyable.

I went with an all Jeeves software combination to end the month. Man, Jeeves is some good stuff! I realize I've said that multiple times this month but it's the truth. Thank you to Adam for sending out the Bay Rum soap. I have a little chunk of Turkish Bath that I'm working on as well and both are excellent soaps.

My January recap: I spent the month concentrating on two razors: Schick 66 and GEM G-Bar. I tried various blades in those razors as a mini blade trial. I found that Chick, Personna, and Proline blades all work quite well with the 66, with good pleasure coming from the Personnas working out. I had written those blades off a while back. Hands down the best blade in the G-Bar was a PTFE coated GEM blade. The carbon blades didn't work well for me. It was an informative and fun month of shaving.

Now, on to February. Not sure what I'll do yet but I'll be here to share whatever I decide.

    Have a great day!

Great filter effect Perry. Glad to see you enjoy the Zenith Boar. The bristles are very soft. My experience mirrors yours on the Gem blades.

Saved some of the best for last DR Harris Marlborough and Fine L’Orange Noir. Love the woodsy cedar scent and so does the wife. Used my Edwin Jager DE89 with a feather blade and JR 177 with a plisson knot. Very comfortable luxurious shave all around.

Thank you, Clint! I really enjoyed the Zenith. Those slightly bigger boars, like an Omega 49 as well, are fun to get down into soap containers and load like fire. Makes lots of terrific lather.
