An excellent shave today as I had no problem removing a few days of growth. Two passes with a little touch up for an extremely smooth and comfortable BBS shave.

 

BTW, the loose PAL blade with PaL on the spine is NOT the shaving pal blade, this is a lab blade that is rougher, for me much rougher. if u want the real Pal shaving blade it has .009 on spine and color is darker. They come in 5 blade packs or a 10 blade vault named PAL super.. try those for the real PAL shaving blade that Fuzzy used. Seems many are confused, you are not using the PAL blade intended for shaving human hairs. So, find the PAL Supers....with .009 on spine..

Yeah. The '47-'52 Gillette Superspeed vintage razor with a BiC Chrome-Platinum blade is the best overall shave I get in my entire collection. I got lucky that the Shulton Old Spice tallow-based shave soap doesn't cause me any breakouts or irritation when so many other tallow soaps can. It could just be luck because the irritation/reaction from tallow is hit and miss. Sometimes I get it and sometimes I don't. Not sure why.

Today's shave was a 3-pass + cleanup BBS and the old Shulton soap's protection is 2nd to none IMO. I didn't get a nick or even a slight irritation. The picture I took with the vintage Burley gear really came out great. I got very lucky to find those items in pristine condition. I use the Burley set sparingly. I will be hopefully getting a green-colored custom-made Siribachi lather bowl which I will use for my Old Spice Lime set. I will be using the Indian Old Spice Lime shaving cream with it. The OS Lime set is also made up of vintage stuff and will be used only on occasion.

 

That is the original picture I took just before using the set for the first time months ago. The burly bath soap initially did have an 'aged' smell to it, but now mid-way thru the 2nd use of the soap, I think it's gotten through enough layers that it's smelling more like a brand new soap and smelling like the time it was first made. So, for future reference to those who buy vintage bath soaps, please allow for 2-4 uses before you get that classic scent you remember. Seems like the first few layers are exposed to aging effects, while the interior layers still maintain that original scent.

I am looking forward to when the antique Early American Old Spice bath soap is used enough times to smell like it did in the 1930's. I have an incredibly well preserved bubble-bath and toilet-water (fragrance cologne) bottles which smell like they were produced just yesterday. The Early American Old Spice smells much more regal and elegant, and IMO, it's better than the subsequent Old Spices. It's a "suit and tie" type of Old Spice scent. It was originally made for women, but don't mistake that for it being a feminine smell because the men's Old Spice was based on that Early American Old Spice scent for women. The fragrance DNA is identical.

That said, I'll reiterate that Early American Old Spice scent for women smells more masculine than many of today's "men's" scents and "unisex" scents marketed at men. The only difference between men's Shulton Old Spice and Early American Old Spice is a few notes and that 'elegance' that makes Early American Old Spice smell like a modern expensive niche fragrance for men.

I HIGHLY recommend that if you happen to have a chance to buy the original Early American Old Spice toilet water (ie, eau de toilette), to jump on it. If you happen to get a well preserved version of it, it's incredible stuff.

Super smooth shave Friday night. Turtleship makes a excellent soap, right up there performance top tier like other well known artisans. The scent gets stronger once lathered, their take on bay rum is not the usual clove scent, but rather a fresh spicy scent. Finished off with T&S West Indies.

Nice irritation free shave this afternoon. The scent of GLS is spicy tobacco, quite a change from many of the other L&L or CL scents. Whipped up a nice lather in the copper bowl. Not the closest shave but no blood loss or irritation which is always a good thing. Finished off with Proraso Woods and Spice balm, smells great and paired well with the GLS. Hope everyone is doing well and getting great shaves!

Fantastic shave from the TIMELESS UFO GSB combination. Lather from the WHOLLY KAW Chypre Rose Concerto was more than up to the task, whipped up with perhaps my favorite brush , the amazing MORRIS & FORNDRAN Blonde Badger. The WK AS provided a final dose of the great scent and left me with a nice smooth finish.​

 

Great razor, dug out of the box. Fantastic 2 pass shave, with BBS results.

Today and this week I will be using my 47 Gillette Aristocrat. It is my birth year razor that I had replated by Sports Shaving.

I started off with Proraso Pre Shave. The Fine Snake Bite Shaving Soap face-lathered well with the JR #258 Synthetic brush. I did two passes with the 1947 Gillette Aristocrat Razor using a Polsilver Super Iridium blade and ended up with a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, I finished off with Thayer's Lemon WH and then Aqua Velva Musk AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...
