Sticking with yesterday's set-up. I realize it's not exotic, but man does it ever get the job done for me. Everything just seems to work together well. Two pass, minor touch-up, BBS shave this morning. And does that Pinaud SR ever have lasting power!

    Cream: Proraso red
    Brush: Omega S10065
    Bowl: Dollar Tree salsa
    Razor: Fatip Grande
    Blade: Nacet (4)
    Aftershave: Pinaud Special Reserve

Tim-I really like it. I am not a master at discerning and describing like you. I will keep it in rotation. Clean, fresh, masculine?

    Wednesday

Prep: Warm Shower-Stirling Bath Soap-Scots Pine Sheep
    Soap: Route 66 Sweeney Todd
    Razor: Gillette NEW Long Comb
Blade: Vintage Gillette “Spoiler” Super Stainless (Shave #7)
    Brush: RazoRock/Zenith Chubby Extra Silvertip-28mmx51mm
    Aftershave: Country Club Highlands

Route 66 Sweeney Todd today. 20 seconds to load the RazoRock/Zenith Chubby Extra Silvertip brush. Easy, thick, slick, lather. Vintage Gillette “Spoiler” SS still in the Gillette NEW Long Comb. Excellent smooth, close shave. I finished with Country Club Highlands aftershave.

Not to worry, blade exposure doesn't make it more aggressive, blade gap does.

I'll start with the comments 1st today cuz this shave was awful. Lathered the Williams and got a so-so lather, obviously don't have my mojo back yet. I couldn't get the HFT to work well at all, wasn't cutting anything. Very uncomfortable too, perhaps due to the barely sufficient lather. Grabbed one of the wife's Bic Metal disposable just to get the job done and I have to say the Bic worked very well. The shave ended up pretty good but I'm not happy about it.

    Gem HFT razor
    Gem Stainless blade
    Bic Metal disposable razor
    WD Synthetic brush
    Williams SS (modern)
    Osage Rub/Witch Hazel w/aloe
    Pinaud Clubman A/S

Thought about you and grinned as I laid this picture out @wchnu!

4th shave on an Astra SP and a puck of modern Williams. Changed nothing EXCEPT I used my Vintage Fuller boar with the original long loft... I feel awkward saying this, but I lost count of passes! I went back to the mug a couple times to reload, mainly head lathered on 2 1/2 days HEAVY growth and just kept enjoying lathering, hand stretching and smoothing before and after each pass. Great BBS with that same small scab that won't quit weeping and BARELY reopening, but the Lemon Thayers and Skin Bracer don't even really point it out! Good old school cold water shave on a 29 degree morning in North Texas!

Funny how a so/so shave or one you have to really work at can kind of sour the day. Of course at least those of us who have returned to traditional wet shaving (DE, SE Straight) now know the difference between a great shave and a not so great shave.

I agree! A sub-par shave puts me in a foul mood for the start of the day. I certainly have them every now and then as we all do.

    Pre: Warm water face wash
    Brush: Semogue 2000 Boar
    Soap: Vitos Red
    Razor: Keen Kutter
    Blade: Schick Proline B
Post: Warm then cold water rinse, Dove PSB.
    IMG_20180207_150712.jpg

Many thanks to @TheFiveO for supplying me with the Keen Kutter :thanks:
Apart from a Rolls Razor this is the most basic head design I've ever used and like the Rolls it's quite ingenious in its simplicity.
The base plate slips out from the head, you place the blade on the base plate and slip it back in. No screw, no hinge, just pressure from the clip.
The shave although very loud was very mild, uncomfortably so, so mild in fact that after two passes I ditched it and brought in a Clog Pruf I had on standby.
Maybe I damaged the blade modifying it, but I don't think so.
I'll give it one more go, possibly less than one pass with a new blade just to be sure.

Schick Grip with a Vintage schick twin blade on 2nd shave.

The Ctown King Valentin Azul soap and splash from last year has to be the BEST Floral shave software I own...amazing, a splash lasts all day long, strong stuff here folks...
Soap Commander balms are legendary and the ROSE balm was made for this.
