I have to thank @Bama Samurai for putting me on the right path with the OGS. I wouldn't have found it quickly on my own. It's right up my alley.
Went for a walk early this morning...like 0130 early. Took my time and rubbed out some Orlik DSK which was packed into my big CAO Meer. Over a hour and half of slow puffing great tasting pipe. BULLY!!
Chris....my pleasure! I send every real newbie some. Saves them R+D! When I can't decide, I smoke OGS. It leaves my palate in good shape for more complex flakes.
So tonight on the way to work was a really relaxing pipe of Prince Albert. Used my England built pipe with the orange stem. Sorry no pic.
You may already know this, but that style is called a Poker, a sitter with a slight forward cant and straight stem. If it has a longer bent stem, it is called a Cherry Wood, although they typically aren’t made of cherry.
The difference is night and day. A buddy of mine took up pipes around the same time I did. He's my smoking partner. I'll be having to show him the way tomorrow night around a campfire and some cards. Or, he can take the rest of my little starter bag of aromatic.
I know now. I've seen the term, but usually with shorter pipes. It's good to learn some terminology. About the most technical I could get now was "that's a pipe" or "that's a curvy pipe".
With many aromatics, flavoring is used to sell otherwise low grade Burley. I stick to natural tobacco almost exclusively. The manufacturers are forced to do it right because they can't hide questionable stuff with sugary syrup.
I’ve never smoked Granger. I’m really liking PS Toasted Burley, mostly as a mixer, so I might give Granger a try.
Yep. Most aromatics are just poor tobacco covered up with goop and flavoring. No real tobacco taste. I switched to Virginias, Vapers, and even some Latakia many years ago. @SharptoothC is correct, it is night and day.
