1. I just arrainged a deal with @Drygulch for two of his straights. What I chose were:
    8) Said Shaheen & Bros Warranted 128. Etching of American Line SS St. Louis ship. 11/16 square tip. Needs hone and some clean up. $45 SOLD
    9) Henry Sears & Son Queen 11/16 square tip with original horn scales and lead wedge. I have shaved with this, but it probably needs a touch up. I can do that if you like, but I am not a honemiester. $65 SOLD

They both look really nice. The more I use straights, the more I like using the larger square tips. Yes, the square tips will bite you quicker, but they can really get into those tight spaces. The largest straight I own is a 6/8 square, so I am looking forward to trying these out.
  2. Great razor! That looks like it would be a tough shape to create and grind... and it looks amazing!

  3. Looks better than the pics. I am worried if I am can keep this edge maintained.

  4. This looks like it could be a carbon copy of an Engels Special right down to the box and lettering it came in. I don’t suppose it actually was produced by them for whoever this Richard Leukroth was but it’s a pretty razor nonetheless. Looks to possible have never been pulled from the box from what my untrained eye sees. Looked up the Leukroth business and only found a business ad from 1930. I guess it will remain a mystery. Really looking forward to shaving with this one. [IMG]

  5. I would have to agree with you on the manufacturer. Looks just like my Engles. It should be a great shaver! Congrats!
  6. Would they have produced a razor for the Leukroth barber supply and not partnered with them by putting their name on the razor? I just figured this razor was imitating a sought after design. I don’t have any knowledge of how the manufacturing worked for smaller businesses that would have commissioned others to make their razor for them. Regardless it doesn’t ultimately matter I suppose, just curiosity.

  7. Here’s another “coincidence “. Flic “high class” exported out of Germany by Max Voos , the vo in Dovo.
A restorer and homnmeister commented that he noticed that Flic razors resembled the high class series of Puma razors. Were Flic razors made by Puma? IDK
The double ducks were also outsourced to other manufacturers. Again, I’ve heard speculation that it may have been Dovo.
So you’re speculations may be correct. Maybe someone else may have the inside poop.

  9. Nice looking Japanese Razor. I own a couple, and they are well made, fantastic shavers.
  10. Congratulations, all the Japanese steel I have tried has been excellent. It looks like yours just came out of the factory.
  11. Thanks! I look forward to trying it out

  12. This one just came in, Straight from Romania. $1.99 = $13 shipping. There wasn't a manufacturer name, and I don't read Russian. I think it might be mid to late 70's. Any info would be appreciated. I believe @mrchick owns one similar.
Before I knocked some rust off:

  14. Here is another I obtained yesterday. I figured it might belong in this section, because the blades do require honing, and well, it's "purdy", to me. :D It's from 1921-1923. It looks as if only one blade has been taken out and used. Minuscule wear on that blade. None of the blades have touched a hone. Everything is silver plated, and I spent an hour polishing with Goddards Silver Polish. 95 years of tarnish. The only thing missing is the strop, and the instructions. The seller apparently lost the instructions, because they were shown on the ebay photo. I took a chance on this one, and paid $30. I didnt know the condition of all the blades.

Wilkinson Sword, Pall Mall. 7 Day Set . Made for Alfred Dunhill of London. Fifth Ave New York.

  18. Looks like they all have a fair amount of wear but it’s a a tool for shaving, shouldn’t they haha? I have recently been in your exact situation in inheriting razors from my late grandfather and I have I say personally it’s been an interesting feeling honoring his memory by using the straights. Makes the experience that much more special. Even without that variable I have found straight razor as a great way to relax and center yourself at the end or beginning of a day. Get one honed and start giving it a shot!

  20. The box says “Russian Federation, Price 3 Rubles”, and the name of the razor is “Dawn”.

Of course this is according to my commi wife, who knows what it really says.... “death stick, Rub against face for 5 minutes?”
