    Prep: Occams Crushed Lime
    Razor: Schick Injector
    Blade: Ted Pella

    Brush: Maggard 24mm synthetic
Soap: Wheat State Soaps- Electric Lemon

    Post: PAA Agartha A/S

Surprisingly decent shave yesterday. First time with Wheat State Soaps, the scent is a nice strong lemon menthol. Lather had excellent slickness and didn't break down when hit with a nice amount of water. For being a more "under the radar" artisan, this was a impressive first impression. Will experiment with it some more but was quite impressed with the lather quality. Finished off with PAA Agartha which is a unique spicy scent with some floral notes, good longevity as well.

    Prep: Musgo Real Classic
    Razor: Wilkinson Sword Classic
    Blade: Rapira SS
    Brush: Razorock Plissoft
    Soap: Grandstaff Amyris
    Post: Stirling Ozark Mountain balm

Smooth shave this afternoon. Grandstaff soap whipped up a nice lather, love the big metal tins which you don't see too much these days. The scent of Amyris reminds me a bit of B&M 42, both have a similar profile to my nose. Excellent scent but is a bit hard to find something to pair it with, so it becomes a wild card to pick whatever scent sounds good. Went with Stirling Ozark Mountain balm, we just got a foot of snow here in Detroit so this scent fits perfectly. Hope everyone is doing well and getting great shaves!

    JR #258 Synthetic
    Gem 1911 Lather Catcher
    Original Gem Cutlery SE
    CWR
    Thayer's Lemon WH
    Aqua Velva Musk

I started off with Proraso Pre Shave. The Old Spice Musk Shaving Cream face-lathered well with the JR #258 Synthetic brush. I did two passes with the Gem 1905 Lather Catcher Razor using an Original Gem Cutlery SE blade and ended up with a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, I finished off with Thayer's Lemon WH and then Aqua Velva Musk AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

Oh no. Mixing with stuff to change the lather is molesting. I graded a cake into a stick. Grating to add scent is ok I think.

    SUNDAY'S SHAVE

Razor - Gillette Red Tip Superspeed circa 1955-1960 (Re-plated in Satin-Nickel Finish by Razor Emporium.)
Blade - BiC Chrome-Platinum *fresh blade
Shave Brush - Ever-Ready 1960's vintage (Polished and re-knotted with a 26mm Ubersoft II knot from Envyshave by Razor Emporium.)
    Preshave Oil - Lather & Wood's "Unscented"
Suds - Proctor & Gamble Old Spice "Original" Cream (Made in India)
Aftershave - Proctor & Gamble Old Spice "Classic"
Post-shave Balm - Retseliney Luxury Skin Care Hyaluronic Acid Face Serum
Deodorant - Proctor & Gamble Old Spice "Classic"
Fragrance - Proctor & Gamble Old Spice "Classic"

I will be testing out my dried up shaving cream. Took 2 weeks to dry with intermittent poking at the dried surface to ensure quicker drying of the layers underneath. Now it's a congealed taffy-like texture. I will soak a little water on the surface when brushing my teeth tomorrow morning to lightly soften it and hopefully it loads with a quick few strokes and lathers as expected. I think it's going to work just fine.

BTW. This is an updated picture of a nearly 2-year old shaving set. Looks pretty much like the first day I used it. I've kept it up really good.

I have to re-think the pre-shave oil now that the soap is a shaving cream base (even considering that it's dried). I very likely can nix the pre-shave oil for this set. I will test with pre-shave oil tomorrow then the next time I use it I will test without pre-shave oil.

Evening head shave, oil only, Yaqi DOC top cap on RR Old Type bottom plate, handle from that weird double blade Russian razor I can never remember the name of but it fits and balances perfectly here. Cap width is similar to the RR but less curve, so I'm guessing a bit more exposure. Tian Li blade.[IMG]

    February 10 - A week with Williams. Day 2

    Razor - Gem MMOC
Blade - [IMG] ASR Carbon - CVS (2)
    Soap - Williams
    Brush - Semogue 620 Boar
    Post - Alum

Second day on my Week of Williams. Also on the carbon blade with the OCMM. I switched to my other small boar brush, the Semogue 620 and went after the Williams with the same plan as yesterday. Wet the puck, fairly wet brush, load until hell freezes over. Since we're getting freezing rain and sleet tonight it didn't take all that long. The lather in the brush looked good so I took it to the face to finish it. The initial appearance was.........not bad actually. Picked up the razor and started in.

First pass smooth, effective, overall nice feel and....the lather lasted through it. It's still a thinner lather than I'm used to with Stiring, et al, but it stuck around and was plenty slick. Lathered up again and made it out the second pass with only a couple of gaps in the lather. Best lasting Williams lather I've had yet. Did some neck touch up and grabbed the alum. Quiet as it could be. Nice. I clearly have the OCMM tamed, or it at least respects me when I handle it right. And clearly the Williams was slick enough to keep it smooth and irritation free as well. Hard to complain about a shave like that. So, I won't. We'll move on to day three tomorrow and see if I can get it even better. Besides, I think Fuzzy needs a break from the comments for a night. Let him get a good night's sleep.

A couple of notes - our day trip over to Illinois yesterday included a stop at a very cool antique store called Ten Pin antiques. It's a former bowling alley with the lanes still intact and lots of cool bowling memorabilia mixed into the selection. I found a box of three straight razors with a $10 price tag on it. Had them get it out of the cabinet hoping the blades would be sound so they could be refurbished and sold for a little profit. No such luck. Lots of rust and all three had frowns to a varying degree plus lots of hone wear. They did have some old brushes and mugs but they were more like ebay dream prices than what I would have expected. Enjoyed the stop but left without spending anything.

The dates for the Meet Up - almost ready to make it public. Working on a couple more items that need to be ready to go. Hang tight, by this time tomorrow night we'll be putting it all together! Have a great Sunday!

    Planned "Sunday-mornin'-go-to-meetin'" Shave
Hot shower, Neutrogena Men's Invigorating Face Wash
    Arko Stick, face-lathered
    Razorock Plissoft brush
Gillette Mach 3 (I'm starting a different blood thinner; gotta be careful)
    3 passes, touch up
Warm rinse, alum, witch hazel, Neutrogena Triple Protect Face Lotion, Grey Flannel AS

Update: Terrible shave. The Arko face lathers great. Must be the razor. (I haven't used the Mach 3 much lately; mostly a Sensor Excel when I don't risk my Milord.) Lots of stubble on the jawline and neck. Several weepers showed up after I'd finished with all my post-shave.

Do you think the texture of that bowl assists in whipping up a lather?
