Four days of beard met my Grandpa’s NeverFail in a show down. I just refreshed the razor on my Arkie and put it to the test with a 2 pass shave. It earned it’s stripes and has me thinking I need to use it more often. :happy036: My face is smooth, smooth, smooth.

I know you're supposed to change only one variable at a time, but after yesterday's fiasco, I was ready to try anything. I changed cream and blade, and, at @Primotenore's suggestion, I "rode the cap" a little. A bit of stubble, a few nicks and weepers, but for me, an acceptable shave.

    Polsilver Super Iridium

    Thayer's Lemon WH

I started off with Proraso Pre Shave. The Old Spice Original Shaving Cream face-lathered well with the JR #259 Synthetic brush. I did two passes with the Gillette President Razor using a Polsilver Super Iridium blade and ended up with a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, I finished off with Thayer's Lemon WH and then Aqua Velva Musk AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

Today's razor was a newly restored and honed razor, from Germany. I had a silky smooth 2 pass shave, that left me BDBS. These old Bokers are great razors.

Tim, lovely blacks. The only thing you are missing is an all-black razor to compliment things. :)

I am eventually going to buy a fully black razor and put a black Treet blade in it. But first I think I should get a good look at all the options for coal-colored razors. I'm leaning towards trying to find a powder-coated razor that resembles my razor stand.

    February 14 - A week with Williams. Day 6

    Razor - Gem MMOC
Blade - [IMG] ASR Carbon - CVS (3)
    Soap - Williams
    Brush - Semogue 620
    Post - Alum

So was last night's Williams lather the outlier? A strange accident that I somehow stumbled into? Here's tonight's effort to help answer that question.

Looks like I'm starting a trend here. You'll notice the visible bubbles in the lather and those never go away with Williams it seems, but again, the first pass was a fine pass including the lather lasting all the way through in its own somewhat thinner self. The slickness was unimpeachable. No problem at all with that. As for the second pass? Again, the left side faded a bit more before I got there but I tend to take more time on that pass. Again, the slickness was at 100% the whole way through.

The blade is holding up very nicely. Smooth and effective on day 3 and the final result of a DFS is quite nice. The alum was nice and quiet as well which is getting to be the normal. Today was shave 15 with the OCMM and I appear to have reached the point of consistent results no matter the soap. That's what a Rule will do for you.

    Post: CL YRP aftershave

Got a nice protective lather from the MW, but did end up with some nasty irritation from this shave along with some bloodletting. Certainly was nit the best shave ever. Finished off with YRP which the more I smell the more I like this stuff.

    20180214_160411.jpg

    Prep: pre shave soap mix
Razor: Icon X3, RR Hawk handle
    Blade: Gillette Rubie (1st shave)
    Brush: Razorock BC Plissoft
    Soap: Soap Smooth Figoconut
Post: Stirling Mountain Man balm, Cool Water EDT

Very nice Valentines day shave this morning. Went with Soap Smooth Figoconut which is fig & coconut, marketed as a Valentines day soap and the scent reminds me of passion fruit. Excellent thick lather that held a nice amount of water. Did have some irritation from yesterday, plus a few nicks. This was the first time with this razor combo and it went quite well. Finished off with Mountain Man balm and Cool Water. Hope everyone is doing well and getting great shaves !
