Actually, he's my only Traditional Shaving Recruit (TSR, for those who just love acronyms :p). I gave him my first razor, a VDH to get him started. I talked up Stirling soaps to him and he bought the Barbershop. I have no idea what he did wrong, but he said he couldn't get it to lather. I had zero issues with the sample he gave me. Looks like we might need to have "lather school" at work one of these evenings. If you can't lather Stirling, I doubt there's a soap you can lather. Although, he claims to have no problems with his Col. Conk soap. He's also not crazy about the scent. He said he likes it in the container, just not on him. I'd say there's a pretty good chance I'll be buying the puck off of him.

Thank you very much Jason! I've never experienced the "good stuff", so I don't know what I'm missing!

Nice photos and write-ups Dan! There's some nice gear in those shots! Too bad about the Dove shaving cream...at least you got it on clearance, so if you can't get it to work, you aren't out much.

    February 15 SOTD:

    Razor: Timeless Bronze OC
    Blade: Voskhod
    Brush: Stirling Kong
    Lather: Maggards London Barbershop
    Aftershave: Maggards London Barbershop
    Additional Care:
    Stirling Unscented PSB

I finally got to this razor, and I definitely enjoyed it. It is certainly hefty, but the fit and finish is top notch. The OC piece just barely extends past the blade, so there is lots of blade feel. With all the weight, no additional pressure is needed and the razor does all the work. On the first pass, I was amazed at how smooth it felt, especially when I really got on the cap. With the scalloped cap, it almost had a DOC feel to it. Nice reduction on one pass, and I lathered again for pass two. The ATG/XTG pass was just as smooth and took care of most of the rest. I ended with a nice DFS. I am very pleased with this first use, and I'll use it for a few more days to get used to it some more. I hope everyone has a great day!

You're right, Rick. These sort of tragedies happen entirely too often.

Very nice photo and gear! I like the butterscotch handle on the injector!

Prep: Cold water and Stirling mentholated pre-shave soap
    Blade: GEM PTFE
    Razor: GEM Featherweight
    Brush: JR #142 black badger
    Lather: Palmolive shave stick
Post: Witch hazel, RazoRock Blue Barbershop aftershave
    WTG, touch up

I was inspired by @Bama Samurai's Palmolive challenge and will use the Palmolive from time to time and chime in on his thread. Really easy to lather, clean scent, good slickness, and good post shave feel. The Palmolive is a great soap! Terrific results overall. Enjoyed the Featherweight and the JR #142 brush is a little gem.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Rick, I agree. It's really scary for me as a teacher. I don't live in fear or walk in trepidation, but when these tragedies occur it reminds me that it could happen anywhere.

My only TSR also had trouble with lathering. I gave him a bunch of tips and sent him several videos that I thought were helpful. He hasn't reported any more problems, so hopefully he's worked them out. I've provided him with a lot of gear over the past couple of years. He was a former student of mine who is now in college and didn't have a great family life. I have been a close mentor to him since he was in middle school. He's doing quite well in college and is now trying to convert his roommate to wet shaving.

Quite often grocery stores run a 10 for $10 "sale" on canned tomatoes (or other canned vegetables). When they aren't on "sale" you can get them for ~$0.90/ea.). It's all in the marketing.
