    Pre: Warm water face wash
    Brush: WDC-8, 24mm Finest
    Soap: Penhaligons Blenheim Bouquet
    Razor: Cobra Classic
    Blade: Schick Proline P
Post: Warm then cold water rinse, 4711

The performance of this soap is pretty good but the scent is amazingly divine, pairs quite well with the 4711 but will have to treat myself to the splash some day.
Every time I use the Cobra I wonder if I'm only keeping my other razors for sentimental reasons?
    Happy Shaving one and all!

    Always good pictures, JAMIE.
    AND WHAT A GREAT IDEA!
I am going to have to try some of my electric razor pre-shaves before lathering for a wet shave.
I have a bunch of them left over from my electric razor days. I always thought that they helped get a closer shave then.
Williams Lectric Shave , a Flag & Sail knock-off , and several bottles of Mennen's Afta Pre-Electric Shave Lotion.

It's seems like such an obvious use - I can't believe that I haven't tried it for wet shaving.
I'm even going to use it under canned shave cream. Great fun.
    THANKS for sharing that!

    Proraso Pre Shave
    Old Spice Original
    TOST LE Synthetic
    Gillette President
    Polsilver Super Iridium
    CWR
    Thayer's Lemon WH
    Aqua Velva Musk

I started off with Proraso Pre Shave. The Old Spice Original Shaving Cream face-lathered well with the TOST LE Synthetic brush. I did two passes with the Gillette President Razor using a Polsilver Super Iridium blade and ended up with a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, I finished off with Thayer's Lemon WH and then Aqua Velva Musk AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

Edit: I changed my brush today to the TOST LE synthetic brush. It is the first of a limited edition brush for TOST across the street. Tom White made the ferrules and a coin for the bottom of the brush.

    FRIDAY'S SHAVE

Shower Soap - Mama Bear's Obsessed for Men
    [IMG]
Razor - Antique Gillette 1907 Old-Type (fully restored and re-plated in gold by Razor Emporium)
Blade - Wilkinson Sword *4th shave
Shave Brush - Everyman Jack Synthetic
Shave Soap - Mama Bear's Obsessed for Men
Shave Bowl - Colonel Conk Marble Fossil
    Preshave Oil - Lather & Wood's "Unscented"
Aftershave - Calvin Klein's Obsession For Men
Post Shave Balm - Retseliney Luxury Skin Care Hyaluronic Acid Face Serum
Deodorant - Calvin Klein's Obsession For Men
Fragrance - Calvin Klein's Obsession For Men
Shave Stand by Robert Evans on Etsy. Must request custom project to order.

I'm pretty good with this razor now and I've found that the Wilkinson Sword blade seems to be the best in my Gillette Old Type. The 'universal' BiC Chrome-Platinum that works so well in everything is runner up though. I just get less irritation and smoother blade glide with the Wilkinson Sword than any other blade in the Old Type. It comes down to that blade-skin contact friction. The Old-Type is the a ridiculously aggressive razor and I was having an impossible time getting a comfortable, irritation-free shave. I was getting ready to blame the soap but I don't have that problem with the same soap using another razor. The Old-Type is just a very finicky tool from a different era. Seems like the 4th shave with the blade has been the best one so far.

I feel very lucky that I actually found a blade that works good in this razor. Also, I think getting used to this razor in terms of my own skill in shaving with it also has something to do with this. My face is BBS smooth with no irritation. I'm going to give the BiC Chrome-Platinum another go with this razor on the next blade change to test again. If the Wilkinson Sword proves to be the best in another 3-4 rounds of switch-trials, then I will be forced to bulk-buy some for the Old-Types I own. I have already bulk-bought BiC Chrome-Platinums because of their versatility. It would be nice if the BiC's covered all of my razors without needing any other blade brand, but I'm going to be thorough here because quality shaves are what this is all about. Going with what works best must be the top priority. "Good enough" aren't the words I want to use with my shaves. I want to run my hand over my jaw and neck and go "Damn that was a great shave".

    February 15 - A week with Williams. Day 7

    Razor - Gem MMOC
Blade - [IMG] ASR Carbon - CVS (4)
    Soap - Williams
    Brush - Omega BoS 10066
    Post - Alum

Well today was my one day off this week and I've had better. I woke up after running a fever during the night. Seems like the cold I've been putting off caught up a bit. I slept a bit more today than I would have liked but we still got out and got a few things done. I'm feeling some better tonight so that's a good thing.

Today is my final day of the Week with Williams! It also completes 16 shaves with the OCMM. I'm happy to report that the lather tonight was as good as the last two nights so I'm pretty sure I've got this Williams thing figured out. As I believe @John Ruschmeyer pointed out this morning, as the puck hydrates from daily use it definitely gets easier to work with. Same goes for Mitchell's. The more water you give it the better the lather gets. Two passes and touch ups and a near-BBS is the result with no blood or other issues. Alum slightly warm but the blade at 4 uses is starting to dull up just a bit. Carbon just doesn't go the distance that stainless does, but it does give you a great smooth shave and lessens the chance of those "oops" cuts.

My take on Williams after a solid week - I hereby promise to stop bashing it in public. At least quite as often. The truth is (and it so often is with any kind of shaving gear) that it isn't a terrible product. It's an old name, been around forever, they changed the formula at one point and that made it more difficult. However, it's slick, seems to provide protection when you finally figure it out and if it was the only soap on the planet I wouldn't stop shaving. I can see how it could be a good choice for that inexpensive back up or travel soap. My problem is that I don't need anything in that niche. That's what Arko is for me and it lathers much more easily. Williams, however, does give you the time as you work on it to hit that "zen" spot we all love.

Tomorrow I'm going back to the Favorite in FAVuary. 14 shaves remain with the MMOC but I'm going to one of my absolute favorite soaps - Mitchell's Wool Fat. Ill use it for 7 days, then finish with 7 dayd of Tabac to take the 30 days out in STYLE!

In honor of a grand old soap and a grand old razor with an old style blade - the picture for today got the antique treatment as well.
