Rockwell vs the world?

Italian Barber has been forced to stop selling the Ikon SBS,. As has been posted elsewhere, this decision stems from a claim by Rockwell that only they have the right to sell a razor with a flippable baseplate, patent for which was obtained by Gareth and Morgan in 2016.

As many enthusiasts know the Ikon SBS is based up on the Tradere and Pils razors, the latter being introduced in Germany not later than 2009.

    Any other information welcome.

POSTCRIPT: I may have erred about the Pils.Same look but not flippable like the Ikon.

Whoever got the patent wins end of story. The scumbag attorneys will get involved and someone will take a huge hit and be forced out of business.

Hmmmm. Folks have stood by Rockwell thru all of their misadventures. On the surface, they certainly didn’t deserve it! This seems a rather inappropriate move... compete on the open market, believe in their now great product, and leave well enough alone!

In looking at this further I may be wrong. While the Tradere and SBS were modeled on the Pils, I guess it was the later Ikon which introduced the flippable baseplate, in which case I can see where Rockwell could make a more legitimate claim. Correct?

As much as I don't like a company to hamper sales of a good product, but I can understand why Rockwell would purchase the patent; they have kind of centralized their market of their company with the S6 and the C6.

Kind of two sides of a coin.

Here's what I find: Rockwell patent filed September 2014. First public reference to the Ikon SBS development December 2014. Advantage Rockwell.

I'm sure Ikon's not too happy.

Why can't Ikon just sell it with two or more plates that don't flip?

I just noticed that the SBS is still being offered on Ikon's and Connaught's sites.

I'm curious to know what the deal is. Perhaps sale of stock on hand was ok'd. Blems for sale still on eBay for $25.

BTW is the Ikon SBS stainless or zamak?

It's described by Ikon as an aluminum composite. It's twice as heavy as the stainless Mamba head. It might actually be Kryptonite.

Connaught also says made from aluminum.

Is Ikon threading any different than other handle threading?

I use the Mamba handle, no problem with other handles I have. They best be pretty heavy.
