Almost surreal. And imagine 200 ish families who many of which, went through way bigger travel ordeal and expense than I did, just sitting there, jaws dropped, going “WTF?” There were conductors flown in from across the country, a world class venue rented, and we gave up because it was maybe gonna snow. I have never seen anything so ridiculously panicky in my entire life.

There are reasons I am considered a curmudgeon. This week only reinforced them all.

Thanks, Andrew. The Clubman VIBR surprised me when I sloshed it on actually. Normally, as an alcohol rub, it stings a bit when I first put it on and then warms up for a bit of tropical heat. Today, my face was still feeling some of the chill from the Osage Rub's menthol and eucalyptus when I put on the VIBR. I was expecting a bit of stinging and then my face warming up. Instead I felt like I had just buried my face in a snowbank -- an instantaneous second round of freezing cold. It was a definite shock...

Refrigerate soap? There is an explanation required. What's the point?

I put two in the fridge - Mystic Water Raspberry Lemon & The Shave Shop / Ginger's Garden Acqua di Florida. Already had the @americanshamrock Peppermint Patty staying cool because it's an experimental heavy menthol with a tallow base that I enjoy. Like the other two I don't want the tallow going rancid from setting in the heat.

Have I mentioned I shave in my kitchen? No SWMBO to tell me I can't. I enjoy my deep double bowl stainless sink with very short pipes to the water heater, mirror mounted right above, lots of counter space and a cabinet dedicated to shave goods. Top of my microwave stand is where brushes, current rotation of razors, & stock of new DE blades rest along side Old Spice mugs and Suribachi bowls. The lighting is good so I take my SOTD photos there, too.

February 26 - A week with Tabac meets a week with the Fat - FatBac - Day 1

    Razor - Gem MMOC
Blade - [IMG] ASR Carbon - CVS (2)
    Soap - FatBac
Brush - Wolf Whiskers Custom Silvertip
    Post - Alum

Well if you were wondering how I could call 5 days a week for MWF and Tabac, now you know. The final four days are FatBac days. That wonderful half and half mixture of the two soaps. If I found out that all shaving soaps would disappear from the face of the planet in a month I'd buy all the Tabac and Fat I could and mix them to keep going. Great scent when mixed and the lather is easily as slick or even slicker than Stirling and very cushy too.

The Wolf got the call to make the lather and did its usual fine job. The blade was as smooth as silk on the lather and it only took two passes and some neck work to get the baby on board. A very nice shave as we wind down FAVuary.

Tonight I caught the baby and put him back in the playpen.
As you can see today the mailman delivered JR #29 (birdseye &badger)and I couldn't wait to get my hands on it . It lathered the Williams like a champ and feels like it was made for my hand . I cant stop holding it .You are awesome Jim !
Tried a new rite aid blade sent from Ken@ GarnerPW and it took me to shave Vahalia. Wow.
Splash of WH and some Gillette series and I am feeling fine .
Almost time to unleash the Luxor...countdown is on . Happy shaves gentlemen.

Great looking brush, Patrick! Nice score! If one of Jim's 400-style brushes becomes available, I may even have to break my NB'18 for it!

    Thanks John
I've always been crazy about birdseye since I was a kid and when I saw this one from back in Jim's early days , I had to have it .
Think I blew the budget long ago but stuff I don't use I will PIF to someone else who may want it. My nephew seems interested in wet shaving so I may enable him to get started.

I have a bottle of the Boosters Polar Ice. Pretty sure menthol is listed. I will check that out.

Lady Gillette (snicker) nice. They actually shave great.
I saw a razor like that in a "My Pillow" commercial.

Dang multi quote blow up. There were suppose to be a few more.
@9nein9 that looks like vintage Williams. Woo the good stuff!!

So took forever catching up. I am going to find a filter for "nice picture" that will take 2/3rds of the post out.

I picked up a nice later model E2 the other day. First shave with it was awesome. That is Marvy's soap and brush too. All worked good!

This box lists potassium stearate first , but it lathers like a rabid dog and actually stays on my face. Used it a couple times now and no complaints. Maybe I got lucky , but my 10 yr old daughter seems to make it lather as good as I do . Maybe we are just natural latherers....if that's a word .

That is the modern stuff. Good job!! I thought the Box looked older. Wait until you try vintage Colgate. Fun stuff there too!

It's almost March....and since I am an avowed lover of all things open blade...

March is not the Magic that is MAYhem, but rather a time when some of us focus on more difficult razors like Shavettes.

I will be doing Shavettes as a group with a PIF I ran. Anyone who'd like to learn open blade SR style shaves, we will get started soon.

@Pilotcld - has been sent an experiment box. He has over 500 shaves on a spike SR, with little other open blade experience. A perfect candidate to evaluate shavette design, he has three to work to master.

@jason koonce - good luck in Nippon! Join in when you get settled.

@9nein9 - maybe start a thread in the SR forum for learning shavette? We will be posting here and there. I am excited that a brand newbie is gonna go for it. @PickledNorthern also walks in the rare air of shavette first. He killed real straights after that like they had training wheels.

Everyone else making a plan? I am ready for some fun.
