So this was a bit of an impulse buy one of those things you see and say "Holy crap that's cool I need it" and I have yet to receive it the picture provided is from the eBay seller who was selling a handful of these but they are "mechanical servant vending machine mini shaving kit" It's a new old stock kit and it looked really cool my question is does anyone by some wild chance have any experience with these? And if so what should I expect? My hopes aren't super high and I'm fine with it being a good to look at curio item but at the same time I'm hoping just as much it will be good to use as an actual travel razor. The shave cream is the most interesting thing to me. The razor looks like a travel tech or clone there of. Will be intetesting to see who made that cream. I assume they were sold from a vending machine. Just a guess. All in all a very neat little set!!! Edit*** it's a Simplex razor. The company sells travel size and trial size stuff. Still in business actually.
Well the cap looks the same as this one ... I owned one and my only regret was selling it. My guess is Gillette had a bunch of the heads left over in stock in the sixties and had the idea of throwing in the travel handle. But of course I could be wrong. As I said, I regretted selling it, so just bought one of these. Not bad for the price ... even for just the head. BTW, thanks for the heads up.
I've had that one on my watch list for a bit and have been meaning to grab one. I've really liked the other Bakelite razors I've tried an am curious about the Simplex. Out of curiosity, would the shaving cream still be usable/safe after all these years?
Depending how it was stored and how well it was sealed, but I'm not going to try it, may pass it forward.
I will tell you more when I find out and likely post higher quality images! Hm that one has a different box where was the pic sourced from? I've become very interested in these machines honestly as they're a bit of a phantom to me I cant even find a picture of one so it begs the question how much variation was in the products inside. Dang looks like it's gotten us both!
Make that three of us. For the price, I will add it to my forthcoming* travel razor section. *Seems like everything is forthcoming until my house magically expands.
I have this tech and have made it my travel tech. I like the shave but don’t particularly like the smell from the Bakelite.
