    From 1968... a lot of great actors but a mediocre production.

    Yea lotta those from that era. I have a 5 dollar DVD that has like 15 of that style movie. Can't be all bad with Columbo in it though.

    Thanks, Buddy. It was just a little too thick in the bowl. A quick running of the tips in the faucet dribble and it was perfect.

    It's fun to watch but there were better war movies. Peter Falk is great in this movie and makes it worthwhile to watch. He plays a member of The Black Devils... the joint Canadian-American special services unit which saw action in Italy. Nothing like his Columbo character which I love to watch even though I know the episodes by heart. He was a versatile actor.

    Fourth shave of the rule:

    Slim 5
    Rapira SS
    Yaqi BB
    Tabac SS
    Speick AS
    Nivea PS Balm

    Skipped the Proraso Red Preshave, can't say I really noticed a difference. Turn up the slim to 5, really noticed more blade feel. Feel like I m really decreasing the amount pressure I'm using and did a lot of cap riding on the wtg pass. Got a small nick on the xTg pass. Experimented with a few different strategies, some of them worked pretty well, the alum told me one of them really didn't work. All in all pretty decent shave.
    As an addendum, I would like to say I gald I those the slim for my first rule, it's a razor I have really struggled with to get a comfortable, irritation free shave. I still haven't, but I feel like I'm making good progress, which I think is going to translate when I can use my razors which agree with me more.
    Think I'm going fail the Slim up to 6 for next shave.

    No pic Monday

    I knew I would be pressed for time so I preloaded the B&R (Rocnel adjustable) with a Super Iridium the night before. The Castle Forbes is just stubborn, a little goes a very long way and even though I have been able to see the bottom of the tub for some time it refuses to die. Four passes to an epic shave.

    Irritation A+ Closeness A+

    Razor: B&R Rocnel adjustable (Super Iridium)
    Brush: Whipped Dog
    Soap: Castle Forbes
    AS: Lucky Tiger AS, Chanel Antaeus ASB
    Scent: Chanel Antaeus

    Great report! Two comments:

    1. I tried preshave oil and never found it made any difference to me. Some people like preshave products but I think most of us don’t bother with them.

    2. There seem to be three strategies with adjustable razors: (a) find a level you like and just leave it there;
    (b). Start high and go lower with each succeeding pass, or vice versa;
    (c) change the level for different areas of the face and neck to match how sensitive they are.

    I have tried all of them and have settled on the basic "set it and forget it" method. The approach often recommended for this (and the one I use) is to keep increasing the aggressiveness until you are just past your comfort zone (or until you have proved to yourself that you can shave on 9), then drop back to the lowest level that gives you a clean comfortable shave and stay there. The purpose of an adjustable is not to test machismo but to allow one mass-produced razor to suit almost everybody. And the ultimate goal is a good, comfortable daily shave.

    I have run all three of my Gillette models and my Rockwell 6s up to their maximum settings. I now use them on medium settings that give me a clean shave with no drama -- 4 on the Gillettes and 3 on the Rockwell 6s.

    After thinking about what you gentlemen said, I dug out my SR and used it tonight. Shave for Sunday, March 4 brought to me by Thiers Issard, purveyors to Sweeney Todds everywhere since 1884:

    IMG_00000177.jpg IMG_00000180.jpg IMG_00000181.jpg IMG_00000182.jpg

    The razor is a 4/8 round tipped hollowground "singing razor" with a bamboo handle.

    So how was it?

    I did one pass overall for a CCS with no blood and no squawk from the alum. I had a bit of difficulty with the razor seeming "sticky" at first, until I remembered what you SR guys say about liking wetter, runny lather. I wet my brush under the tap and went back over my face to make my lather about twice as wet as I usually like it, and after that the razor glided. It's a loud razor -- I could practically hear each individual whisker being cut. And you two were right: the SR felt much more forgiving and like it had a wider range of non-butchering angles I could use than did the shavettes.

    How did I like it? I have no doubt at all that I could shave with this SR daily if all my other razor options disappeared. However, I did a cleanup pass with my Supply Co. injector and found that a much more relaxing and enjoyable experience than using the SR was. I would say offhand that all the other razor options would have to disappear before I would turn to regular use of an SR -- and that's without even considering all the maintenance requirements of stropping and honing.

    Am I glad I tried the SR (and shavettes)? Yes. But the bottomline is I think between the Parker SRX and the Thiers Issard Bamboo, I wasted a lot of money at Fendrihan's Black Friday sale on equipment I am never going to use... The Dark Side just is not me...

    Happy birthday, Adam! I like that body style of truck. I had an f-250 in the same style, but couldn't fit the kids in it, so I had to get rid of it.

    So I haven’t yet been able to mention my shave from this morning but the shavette learning I think is going nicely almost completely smooth!! Still working on the chin area and razor burn. Got a couple cuts on the chin but other than that not a bad shave this morning !!
